A wonderful family day out at @Longleat Safari Park today. My boys (both with ASD) absolutely loved it. Thank you for a wonderful day. โบ๏ธ ๐ฆ
Photos to followโฆ.
Longleat stately house, which is home to the Marquess of Bath. Itโs set in 1000 acres of parkland, designed by Capability Brown. The house was built by Sir John Thynne, & designed by Robert Smythson. Construction started in 1568, & was finally completed in 1580.
Up close, giraffes are absolutely amazing creatures; their markings, & beautiful big eyesโฆ ๐ฆ ๐
This Eland antelope came right up to our car, & stood looking at us for about a minute, before wandering off again. Obviously wasnโt impressed! ๐
These are scimitar horned oryx antelopes. These antelope originate from Africa, but became extinct in the wild in 1999. Some believe the myth of the unicorn may have originated from them. Their horns are hollow bone & break very easily.
Camels can stand extreme changes in temperature, & their humps actually store fat they can turn into energy, allowing them to go without food/water for long periods. Fun Facts: theyโre the only land animal able to drink salt water & their nostrils are sealable to keep sand out!
In the Deer enclosure, you can purchase little pots of deer pellets, & theyโll walk right up to the car, & take them out of your hand! I thought this little cutie was going to climb into the car at one point! An absolutely wonderful experience. ๐ ๐ฆ
A few more deer snapsโฆ In the 1st photo, she looks like sheโs laughing ๐
Itโs a hard lifeโฆ. These lions were absolutely beautiful. Fun Fact: A lionโs roar can be heard from 5 miles away! In the wild, lions usually live about 15 years, but in captivity, it can be as long as 30!

During adolescence, a friend of mine was bitten on the lip by a dog.
Naturally, this shook her & she subsequently developed a genuine fear of dogs, which she still has today. When she tells people, they are understanding, sympathetic & acknowledge the trauma she experienced
My friend obviously knows that not all dogs are dangerous/aggressive but due to her experience, she fears them *all* even mine. I completely understand why she feels this way, so Iโm not โoffendedโ that she dislikes them, & donโt take it personally.
Despite the fact that I know my dogs are perfectly friendly, I take steps to ensure she feels safe - I always make sure they are in another room if she visits.
