1/ It's here: a megathread on how to get a job in Web3
We'll cover must-dos & 3 scenarios 1) working in CeFi/a big company 2) working in a smaller startup 3) working at a DAO
TLDR; it's all about investing time & energy to showcase your interest before you even apply for a role
2/ First thing before getting a new job is reflecting on ur what ur solving for
Ask yourself
- Why do I want to work in web3?
- What do I want to get out of that experience?
This will help you better prioritize ur search based on sub-industry, mission, size, etc.
3/ When I was looking for a web3 job, I did that exercise & stack-ranked my priorities
- Mission: build smtg transformational
- Industry: i wanted to work in payments
- People: I want to work with crypto natives
U can read more this exercise on my blog: bit.ly/3jibaQI
4/ CeFi/big company
Crypto co's like Coinbase & Kraken have 1000s of employees + their recruiting process looks no different than any other tech co
Standard best practices
- Leverage ur network to get a referral
- Familiarize urself w/ the product
- Tailor ur XP to match the JD
5/ Big companies aren't looking for crypto natives or mission-aligned folks
They're big enough where they just need qualified ppl for the roles that theyre hiring for: product, eng, marketing, etc
It ofc helps to have a good story about 'why crypto' but its not necessary
6/ Smaller startup (pre-seed - series B)
Heres where you need 2 put in some leg work. Smaller startups r solving for 3 things
- fit, do u get the mission of web3
- energy, can u go above & beyond
- work xp, can u do ur job w/o being a liability (wont fuck up, wont need coverage)
7/ Bang out the first 2 requirements by writing
Writing is imo the easiest way to showcase ur passion for web3 and ur willingness to invest ur free time & work hard
Writing = i care enough about this topic + im well versed
10/ Satisfy requirement #3 (work xp) by doing a side project
- Wanna be a solidity dev? Write an sc
- U only do front-end? Build a decentralized UI for another protocol
- More into analytics? Build a dashboard on @DuneAnalytics
- Ur a design fren? Make a prototype of an idea
11/ Not technical? Not an excuse to not build
- Build an MVP w/ a no code tool
- Start a notion page / airtable that consolidates disparate information
- Fix a broken process in a Discord
Read how 2 be a non-technical builder on my blog: bit.ly/2WridO7
12/ Working @ a DAO
Finding a job at a DAO is basically Hard Mode job mode-wise. Expect to start off volunteering a lot before u get paid a cent
Also disclaimer that u should only work for a DAO that u REALLY love, not for the $
17/ That's why I'm such a strong proponent of writing and tweeting!
Your twitter activity is basically your resume (see how many DAO @'s people have in their bios?), your portfolio (tweets of thoughts), and your network (your followers) all in one
18/ To recap
- reflect on why u want 2 join web3 2 help ur search
- invest ur free time to showcasing ur interest + build a brand
- identify which role is a good fit based on need
I know a lot of people r interested in breaking into web3 full time & I hope this thread helps!

1/ Pretty disappointed at defi innovation right now
Maybe that's why CT has been so encapsulated with NFTs - it's where the new ideas are
We need to stop copy pasta'ing the same degen playbook and reinvent new primitives that people will actually use after LM rewards dry up
2/ Here's some shit that I want to see:
- Composable primitives that arenβt possible in tradfi
- Structured products with real-world use
- Reputation-based primitives
Here's shit I don't want to see:
- leveraged pools
- same primitive, different L1
- ponzinomics yield farming
3/ Innovation means reimagining financial products from first principles, leveraging what blockchain can do that is impossible in tradfi
@AlchemixFi combined yield on Yearn w/ upfront loans @RariCapital created isolated lending pools @OlympusDAO created protocol-owned liquidity
1/ Summarizing βAlgorithmic Insuranceβ by @0xtuba for @scribedao
TLDR; Smart contract insurance has PMF due to user need (from degens) and deterministic payout from on-chain events, but also has drawbacks due to subjectivity in the claims process
1/ People that don't understand the pudgy pengus don't understand the power of mimetic desire & in-group signaling
If there are people that you respect and want to be 'accepted' in their group, you'll likely mimic their behaviors & actions
2/ Mimetic desire is baked into our brains, as an evolutionary mechanism to belong to a group in order to maximize survival
In our modern society, this is reflected in literally 90% of our actions & behaviors: our hobbies, our clothing, our slang
All to belong
3/ For all pfps, there's a sense of signaling. It's the combination of two reasons why ppl are saying that pfp projects are pumping: flexing & community.
Flexing = ur signaling outwardly of being a part of an exclusive group
Community = u reap the benefits of being in the group
