Greetings from quarantine, friends! I’ve been EXPOSED!

Let’s chat a second about why ALL schools need to implement mask requirements now. A 🧵.
The 7yo has been able to play with her BFF throughout the pandemic. Why? Because her parents were taking the same precautions as ours. They masked in public. They vaccinated. They were cautious. Plus, they’re just lovely people with good sense.
And like most families, they allowed their kiddo to return to her school is CUSD because school should be a safe place. They sent her masked everyday. Unfortunately, many kids in her class were not masked and the majority of the CUSD Board voted to do nothing.
The kids had a play date last Friday. Again, they’ve been playing throughout. On Sunday, Quinn’s BFF woke up sick. Yesterday, they all tested positive for COVID. That means my entire family, including my parents, were exposed.
I DO NOT blame Quinn’s BFF and her family. They were doing the right things! They are a wonderful family and I hope they recover. They do not deserve this. Neither do the other families who chose in-person. The public should be able to send kids to safe public schools!
We were able to choose to keep Quinn online because we are privileged. I can work from home and I don’t have to worry about taking time off if necessary. The district has an online program. Those are privileges.
But I do blame our government, from the top to the bottom. The Biden administration has been anemic. Ducey is intentionally trying to kill children and destroy public education. Our legislature is full of ignorant conservative racists. They’re all to blame.
But mostly, I blame Barb Modzden, Joel Wirth, and Jason Olive—the members of the CUSD Board who voted to do nothing about masking in the District. They chose #CashOverKids and they will do it over and over again.
As I noted yesterday, if my baby gets sick, I’ll make sure they NEVER know peace. Trust.
Masks are only one layer of COVID mitigation, but until our littles are eligible for vaccination, it is the MOST IMPORTANT layer and it works best when everyone is masked. This isn’t ticket science. It’s common sense. If everyone is masked, there is less COVID in the air, folks!
Anyway, we’re patiently awaiting our PCR test results in quarantine. We took home tests and they are negative. However, I can’t I’m good conscience go anywhere and expose others until I’m positive that we’re all in the clear. That’s because I’m not a murderous asshole.
Unfortunately, we can’t rely on other people to not be murderous assholes, which is precisely why we need mask mandates. If we want schools to safely remain open, we need mask mandates. If we want to get through this shit, we need mask mandates.
I know it’s tiring. You know what else is tiring? Having COVID and trying to breath with liquified lungs. The choice is yours, I guess.
Pardon all of my typos. Actually, no don’t. Typing with 1 finger has never been my jam. You know what I meant.

Y'all know that I count Kyrsten as a friend and because of that, I don't often call her out publicly, though she's aware of my opinions. Today, I'm moved to say after reading this that she's dead wrong. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/…
I think we all know that her view of the filibuster, and more largely, bipartisan compromise, are fiction. Bipartisanship requires that both parties come to the table as honest brokers. Republicans have made it abundantly clear that they are not interested.
Kyrsten says "the filibuster compels moderation and helps protect the country from wild swings between opposing policy poles," but that is fiction. I don't need to repeat how the filibuster has roots in Jim Crow. Others have already said it. Go Google it.

SB 1457, the invasive and insidious anti-abortion bill was amended and passed the House and will be up for a vote on the Senate floor, likely on Monday. If 1457 is not stopped now, it goes to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
SB 1457 makes sound science and medical treatments illegal. Doctors and patients become felons. It bans abortion based on fetal anomaly diagnosis and disability status. In reality, there are so many toxic layers to this bill that it’s still unclear as to everything it undermines.
A few of the hits:

* Makes IVF illegal (page 1, line 6)
*Criminalizes doctors and patients, with up to 5 years mandatory prison sentence
*Bans abortion based on disability status and fetal anomaly diagnosis (page 18)

Did y’all know there were 2 movies in 2020 where the plot involved a pregnant Black woman being held captive by crazy white ladies? Well, now you do. I’m watching Delivered on Hulu! hulu.com/movie/2c4fca1a…
The other was Kindred, which is also on Hulu. I watched it in January. It was good.
And there’s gotta be a book or article about this. I mean, there are articles about pregnancy as a them in horror, but are there any specifically dealing with Black women?

This April 1 is definitely filled with fools. Find them all down at the #AZLeg on the R side. They’re busy voting no on mask mandates because autonomy/freedom, while criminalizing abortion because autonomy & freedom don’t count for pregnant hussies or something like that?
Special shout out to Walt Blackman, who spoke on behalf of “the Black community.” Which Black community? Must be the one located in The Sunken Place. Image
Remind me to tell y’all about the time Walt, his wife, and their friends (who are shockingly NOT Black) joked that my sister and I must’ve been raised with “no father in the home” because we believe repro rights are human rights. My dad got a kick out of that. 😉
