🚙 TRAVEL THREAD 🚙
6:30am Friday August 27,2021. my solo journey from the very most eastern point of the US to the most western.
sad to be leaving. this was the greatest summer of my life
to get a spot for a vehicle on a ferry you need a reservation months in advance or you go ‘standby’ which is a total crapshoot.
Yesterday I was in line to see about a standby spot and there was a rude woman in front of me doing the same. I was super nice to the ticket guy, asked how his night was going, apologized for the rude woman, and he hooked me up on the very next ferry out. ALWAYS BE NICE
this was last night. Candice made this lightship basket. It took her the entire summer. She spent 3-4 hours a day in a wood shop with other enthusiasts working on it. When she left the wood shop for the last time of the summer, with her completed basked, she was crying.
back to the real world
stopped for gas and was a little snoozy so I tested out my nap set-up. I took little Georgies crib mattress (she’s ready for a big girl bed), 2 big pillows and a comforter. May have made it too cozy - I slept for 2 hours. deeeeep sleep 💤
crossed into NY state last night. met Robbie at a McDonald’s on the side of the freeway. Great guy, hard worker.
crossed into PA super late. didn’t want to do a hotel but very tired 🥱
slept in a parking lot full of other people sleeping in their cars. 6 hours of solid sleep. Feel great, feel a little gross but mostly feel great.
shower and change at graham’s place in Cleveland. I no longer feel gross.
if you’re in Cleveland come say hi to Jermaine, Tyler and the rest of the crew at Premiere Barber. Great people.
trying to avoid cities but I passed by Chicago, great city.
made it to Wisconsin late in the day. I woke up around 5 this morning so I’m a little tired. my only rule is NEVER DRIVE TIRED
found a very decent parking lot. gas station not rest area. but a good parking spot. used the surf shower then climbed into my cave.
I use a timer to keep track of how long I’ve slept. last night was an uninterrupted eight hours thirteen minutes and fifty three seconds. this truck might be the best sleep I’ve ever had.
I attribute some of that quality sleep to this little USB powered fan I bought from wal mart. nice to have a little air flow.
truck stop shower ($13) to go with my truck stop coffee ($2)
the sunrises are one of my favorite parts of this trip. this is Wisconsin
the Mississippi !!
a human being who speaks the English language chose the words on this poster. Someone thought these were the best words.
OK i kinda stopped my real-time travel tweet thread beacuse people figured out where i was and it was starting to freak me out. so imma post the rest of my trip now even tho i finished my trip alreayd
I’ve always been a little obsessed with Americana and mt rushmore sits atop that obsession.
this has sat on my bucket list simply because I never ever thought I’d have a reason to be in South Dakota. turns out my reason was simply to see mt rushmore.
use the 2.5x zoom lens on the iPhone. lock focus on the mountain then snap away.

IRL
Made it to Wyoming. but barely. my never drive tired rule was pushed pretty far to get to the state line.
I can’t express how well I slept in that truck. I’m not a big sleeper but I’ve never slept 7 hours and 48 minutes without interruption. dreamy.
this was where I slept. there’s a human under that corvette tarp. I slept with bear mace. It’s a little freaky sleeping in such an exposed way.
my shorts are drying because I used my surf shower last night and didn’t go full nude.
how many times have you seen ‘close encounters of the third kind’?
this movie defined my childhood
act natural.
made it to Yellowstone. the smoke from the fires was everywhere. Nose got stuffy and throat sore. Stayed that way throughout the day
this felt special. you see so much driving that you’d never experience flying over.

🚨TRAVEL THREAD🚨 I’m driving from Los Angeles to Massachusetts, about 3200 miles (5150km), and will be sharing my journey here in one gigantic thread.
—June 12, 2021 4:52AM trip begins—
I deleted my original tweet announcing this trip because I wrote the wrong date in the tweet and that typo would’ve cast a dark shadow over this adventure
first stop is to pick up my co-pilot. I’m pretty sure he’s going to sleep through 90% of this trip so set up the truck accordingly
so at the start of pandemic (March 2020) i bought enough Nutella to survive an apocalypse on Nutella alone. some of that Nutella is now starting to expire and i've made a very interesting discovery....
Nutella well passed its expirey date doesnt make me sick (might make others sick tho so proceed w caution) BUT it does harden slightly. my old Nutella rather than being a silky smooth chocolate goo is more like dense drywall putty. AND ITS FANTASTIC...
ive bent back several metal spoons trying to scoop it out but once you get a solid shovel full its an amazingly delicious treat. you have to chew it. its heavy. its wonderful...
does anyone want to take over the lease on my Tesla Model 3 Performance?
-17 months left on lease.
-$769.38 monthly payment
-NO option for buyout
-25k miles left on lease (thats a lot)
more info in thread
its a truly great car (maybe my fav ever) but we have a minivan for family vehicle and i only really need a big surf truck to beat on and haul my gear so i just dont drive this enough to justify having it (in 19 months ive put only 5k miles on it)
in flawless condition. custom chrome delete, window tint. every option Tesla offers. SERIOUS CONSIDERATION ONLY. must have good credit (so telsa finance will let you take over lease). if out of state then costs might change so best for CA people. LMK!!!
took this video tonight. Venice, California around 7pm. this is Lincoln Blvd and Flower street. I used to live 4 blocks from here.
there have been a lot of fires in LA that are linked to homeless encampments. its a dangerous situation for all parties (the homeless and nearby property owners). i see these kinds of fires often -- abc7.com/venice-fire-la….
why not stop and offer help; after living here for nearly 2 years ive learned there are appropriate ways and extremely dangerous ways to help the homeless. approaching an encampment esp at night, under any circumstances, is v dangerous.
