1/ I'm in touch with sources on the ground at Pak-Afghan border at Torkham. Taliban now in control on Afghan side. I received really crazy footage of Afghan children walking in tracks of trucks to illegally enter Pakistan and sell clothes there.
2/ As you can see in the footage I obtained from Torkham border between Pakistan and Afghanistan: Border is open for traffic. Armed Taliban fighters stand on Afghan side. Afghan flag has been removed and replaced with white Taliban flag.
3/ The footage also shows Pakistani border forces on their side of the border standing only meters away from the Taliban fighters on the Afghan side. All looks pretty relaxed. The trucks you see in the report passing from Afg to Pak are mostly carrying fresh fruit.
4/ Just to clarify the footage of children walking behind the wheels of trucks to sneak into Pakistan. This practice itself is not new, it's not related to recent Taliban takeover. It just shows you how poor many people in the region are &that those kids really have a tough life.
5/ Furthermore, sources on the ground near to Torkham tell me the following: Although border open and situation relatively normal, many Pakistanis who want to visit Afghanistan can’t enter as Taliban isn’t issuing visas yet.
6/ Also one source told me he saw bunch of armed Afghan Taliban on the Pakistani side of the border freely moving in Khyber District (formerly FATA Khyber Agency). The Afghan Taliban fighters seemed pretty relaxed.
7/ Although Torkham is open, Pakistan is worried that many Afghans might try to go to Pakistan. Acc to my sources, Pak has intensified patrols along the recently built fence with Afghanistan - thus blocking people from illegal crossing into Pak.
8/ Due to the Pak built border fence, one of my sources told me, some families in Afghanistan can’t visit members on the Pak side anymore. He, for instance, told me he saw people from both sides of the fence waving at each other.
2/ As my story is in Arabic, let me tweet some parts out in English. You can of course also use google translate on the Arabic piece.
3/ When I obtained, through a source in Syria, the content of a mobile of an ISIS member, my heart was in my mouth. 1000s of pics, videos +other files. Everything was there. I knew this potentially was a big story, but I never realized it would be this big.
1/ #break German court sentenced today the ISIS woman whose Syria phone content I published to 6 extra months in jail for having used enslaved Yazidi women as she lived in Raqqa. In 2020 this ISIS woman already got 3,5 yrs so total now 4 yrs jail. Details: akhbaralaan.net/news/special-r…
2/ During the trial, ISIS woman Omaima Abdi admitted to having used enslaved two Yazidis -among them a 13 yr old enslaved girl- as she lived in Raqqa. Although Abdi blamed media for a witch-hunt against her, she eventually apologized to the Yazidi women.
3/ Abdi further stated that she wants to forget about the whole ISIS episode as soon as possible. “After I am free, I would like to set up a hairdressing studio,” she said, “And I want to be as soon as possible reunited with my four children”.
Controversy in #Denmark. Government wants to get rid of Syrian refugees &is offering cash if they leave Denmark. 100+ Syrian families took offer & left. Others fear for their safety in case they go back to Syria. I spoke to worried Syrians in Denmark who refuse to leave. @akhbar
Syrians I spoke to said: Danish gov offers Syrian family of 5 around $50.000 if they leave Denmark. And if you leave, Danish gov will pay child support until kids are 18 yrs. Families don't necessarily have to go back to Syria. "As long as you leave Denmark, they give money."
But although Danish gov gives financial incentives to Syrian refugees to leave, many don't want to. Main reasons I heard is that Syrians fear they are wanted in Syrian government areas. And many are already 5/6 yrs in Denmark, they want to build future there, not pack bags again.
On my weekly show on @akhbar we talked about females doing "male" jobs. I had 2 very interesting guests. Rana - Lebanon's first female car mechanic. And Nayla - the only female taxidriver in Gaza. Such inspiring ladies ♥️
Favorite car of Nayla - the only female taxi driver from Gaza- is a BMW. She works to support her family &kids. Her family was first against her doing "male" job. Nayla only drives female customers. "Most are happy to be chauffeured by a woman instead of man", she says.
According to Nayla, male taxi drivers in Gaza sometimes block her road because they don't like that a female works as taxi driver. "I don't care," she says, "I push my car until I am through."
Nayla is new on Instagram. You can follow her here 👇
1/ Guilty or not? I discuss the arrest in France of Islam Alloush, ex-spokesman of Syrian rebel group Jaish al-Islam, accused of human rights violations. His brother @DrNehma says he is innocent. @Aous_Al_mubarak +Anas Al Khawli insist he is guilty. Thread
2/ Context: Islam Alloush was spokesman of Jaish al Islam, Islamist opposition group in Ghouta. After group lost Ghouta to Syrian gov, Alloush got French visa to study there. Opposition activists recognized him in France & said he is guilty of human rights violations in Ghouta.
3/ Although in a French jail now for over a year, the twitter account of Islam Alloush (whose real name is Majdi Nehma) still functions. It is: @MajdiNema. His family uses the account @Majdifamily to campaign for his release.
