Correct link for @ajc community conversation with school leaders re:#COVID19:
@ajc, chat is disabled for the community conversation.
@ajc @ajc, since chat is disabled, here is what I want to know from the @CobbSchools super Ragsdale---The evidence is in. Masks are reducing transmission. Just compare 14-day per 100K for 5-17 for Gwinnett (415) and Cobb (918). Will you mandate masks, even temporarily? If not, why?

Verified: A @CobbSchools MS science teacher has been hospitalized with COVID. Working on more information.
Per my sources, the teacher is on day 11 of hospitalization. He is vaccinated.
I have the educator's name, but I am holding off until I can verify current school. If you have info, DM me.

Well said; however, @AJCGetSchooled, what if it is the super who is the problem? Ragsdale's quote in the MDJ yesterday, which is an either/or fallacy, indicates that Cobb is not doing anything to stop COVID because he (not board) believes the is nothing to do other than close.
@AJCGetSchooled The quote, @AJCGetSchooled: 'Look, if you want to stop the spread of this virus in the classroom there’s only one thing you can do: (students) not being in a classroom. That’s it. There’s nothing in the world that we can do,” Ragsdale said' mdjonline.com/news/ragsdale-…
@AJCGetSchooled This is a classic example of a false dilemma or either/or fallacy and a way to justify inaction by blaming it on the problem just being too big, too hard to solve, or the solution being too unpalatable, ignoring any other solutions. fallacyinlogic.com/false-dilemma/

"You just don't have a level of transparency about what you're being exposed to and what you're around at school," Shepard said. "I think that student health is a part of student success, and I think it should be something that should be prioritized." mdjonline.com/news/school-su…
'The Wheeler senior also said she would feel safer if masks were mandated in Cobb Schools.'
'For his part, Ragsdale said there "has not been a more complex environment that anybody has had to operate in."

"It's a struggle," he said, but there are protocols in place.'

Thanks to hivemind support from @melissaamerault and others, I'm working on comparing the current data to last years. First takeaway? Cobb schools didn't exceed 1,000 cases until the week of December 11th. That was after ES, MS, and HS had all returned f2f and a break
@melissaamerault It, however, did not have over 800 cases in a single week ANY week in the 2020-2021 school year. The highest weekly increase was 470 week of January 15th, 2021.
@melissaamerault Cobb had over 942 new cases this week, week of August 20th, 2021. That is almost exactly DOUBLE the highest weekly new cases from last year (470 on 1/15), 3 weeks into the year @ChrisJoseWSB, @RebeccaGaunt, @CobbCourier, @ajc, @mdjonline, @nytimes @CDPHga
