"America faces a great division coming into this era of unspeakable grief as we look upon the failure of our executive branch to execute a well-planned withdrawal of American forces, citizens, allies, and weaponry in Afghanistan," Rep. Higgins said in a statement.
"This administration has abandoned its oath to the American people, and it is the right thing to do for President Biden, Secretary Austin, and Chairman Milley to step down," Rep. Higgins continued.
"If a sitting President resigns, the constitutional process of succession will immediately move forward as our Founding Fathers intended. I call upon the President to embrace this moment and resign," Higgins added.
The Republicans also pushed for a vote on a resolution to impeach Secretary Of State Antony Blinken introduced Friday by Republican Reps. Ralph Norman of South Carolina and Andy Harris of Maryland.

The members are invoking the Seven Member Rule, which is a law that requires, upon a request of 7 Members on the Committee on Oversight and Reform, an executive agency to "submit any information requested of it relating to any matter within the jurisdiction of the committee."
In the letter, the lawmakers grilled Francis and Fauci for not responding to their inquiries regarding a 2014 grant awarded by the NIH to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. (EcoHealth) that was then awarded to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
