I usually hate automated emails from brands.

But I recently got one from @Grammarly that was almost perfect.

It even made me move them to my Primary inbox.

Because it was actually valuable.

The first thing I noticed about this email was the subject line.

I mean, that's what got me to click the email in the first place!

It wasn't salesly or trying too hard to get your attention.

Instead, Grammarly starts the whole interaction on a positive & friendly note. Image
Next, they keep the positivity rolling with a writing badge.

I got ""Tolstoy-Like"" for writing 7 weeks in a row.

This gamification might seem silly.

But it's a great way to give your users a pat on the back.

But I think my favorite part of the whole email is the Analytics section

First, it boosts my ego by saying I'm better than other users.

And also because it shows how much I actually achieved last week.

When you're heads down in a project, that perspective is quickly lost. Image
Grammarly also breaks down:

āœ… Your writing tone
āœ… Your top grammar mistakes
āœ… Your top spelling mistakes

Into simple visuals that you can quickly read.

They include links on how to fix common mistakes.

If you have been paying attention, you might notice the immense value in this email.

Grammarly is giving you a ton of valuable info for free.

They don't even push any of their content until the last section of the email.

And even there, the content is helpful. Image
I think that's why I was so happy to open the email.

Instead of trying to push a new article into my inbox.

They told a compelling story about my writing with their data.

And outlined how I can become a better writer.

It felt helpful, which fits @Grammarly's brand perfectly.

Let's be honest, I'm not a designer.

I got my degree in Econ, the least creative field.

But I have created 1000s of visuals over the past few years.

So how did I do it?

By using these 7 simple tips non-designers can use to look like a PRO.
1ļøāƒ£ Leave white space around your design elements

To make your designs look more professional, leave negative space around your design elements.

This gives your content, text, graphs & more some room to breathe.

Not only will this look better, it will help with readability.
2ļøāƒ£ Use a clear text hierarchy

This might sound scary to some people, but it's not!

Basically, just make sure your main headers are larger than the subheaders & those are larger than the body text.

A clear text hierarchy will allow readers to move through visuals with ease.

TikTok has one of the best simple growth/engagement loops I've ever seen.

And it took me way too long to realize it.

So when you share a link to a TikTok on another platform.

TikTok will notify YOU when that video is viewed.

And will show the TikTok username of the person you shared it with.

And BOOM.
