🏹 So... let's talk about that carrd about Tulpamancy stuff, shall we?

Been a while since I did some Syscourse after I got burned a buncha times. But I feel like I can say something about it.

TW: Light Religion Talk, Sysmeds, Syscourse

#syscourse
🏹 As for the carrd I meant: amanitasys.carrd.co/#tulpas

I will also put out there that it's very strange that you can't really access that link on the homepage. Either me and my host are way too stupid to find the clicky part or the person behind it purposely hides it.
🏹 I will talk about this as a system who is based on the South East Asia (Indonesia), a Tulpamancy/Parogenic system, and someone who go through this stuff on occasion.

We (as a system) don't practice Buddhism but we do know a few things about South-East Asia cultures.
🏹 With that, I'll start by saying it's very odd how it claim it practice a South East Asian Buddhism.

'cause talking about South East Asian Buddhism is far different than talking about Tibetan Buddhism, which is what most would say originate the idea/teaching of Tulpamancy, A screenshot of a text that...
🏹 I can somewhat say that Indonesian Buddhism is a bit different than what most think.

A lot of Indonesian Buddhism (and to some extend, Hinduism) are connected to (old) Indonesian animist too. You can probably see this in Bali and some part Yogyakarta.
🏹 And this don't seem to connect with the claim that the idea stems in South-East Asia, when Tibet (and India) is actually South Asia.

Unless we didn't get the memo that they are now part of South-East, I don't know how they can make this mistake.
🏹 'cause a lot of South-East Asia Buddhism are actually a melting pot of either the Indian Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism.

It's a melting pot, and I will admit you can't pin point which sect it follows, but it's something to keep in mind with what it claims to say.
🏹 Since, at least this is my understanding (CMIIW), Singapore is a good example of this where you would see both India and Chinese Buddhist/Hindi temples being very different from one another.

And I am 100% Tibetan Buddhism will be entirely its own thing.
🏹 Now, let's go through how (modern) Tulpamancy, or what most will call Parogenic, is 100% different than what sprul-pa or tulku is.
🏹 Going through Natasha L. Mikles and Joseph P. Laycock writing on "Tracking the Tulpa", the two mention that the concept of sprul-pa (or tulku) is far different than what modern Tulpa would become.

Some core ideas are there, mostly from David-Neel's writing. A screenshot of texts that ...
🏹 Even then, it's mostly mistranslated because how the Tibetan describe things and how David-Neel would describe the event and the detail of what she sees.

Which ends up being... well, what one believes to be how tulpa be. David-Neel introduced the n...
🏹 But all of this is just purely coincidence that relatively the same idea already exist back then in the Western world.

Only... they just call it "Thoughtforms". And it started out as something... not-sentient. Decades before Evans-Wentz ...
🏹 Of course, this changes over time as people start to reimagine and put other ideas into this idea "thoughtforms". Even to a point of explaining paranormal occurrences.

...and that leads to what you see modern Tulpamancy today. An important shift occurred...
🏹 And if you **REALLY** want to know how that develops into your modern Tulpamancy, you can read up a Tweet thread that I made ages ago.

I'm not gonna go through that since that's not the focus of this thread.

It's neat, go read.

🏹 All in all, the idea that Tulpamancy is connected to Tibetan Buddhism and is just a coincidence of "Hey, this is **VERY** close to what we're doing. Guess it already exist!"

...and this is where I, and a lot of Tulpamancers and other folks, think that it isn't appropriation.
🏹 Agreeing with Dragonheart System from Tumblr as they explain what's really going on.

A lot of Parogenic/Tulpamancers never claim that what we're doing is or something remotely close to Tibetan Buddhism, deity yoga, or whatever else claim one would throw. HOWEVER. I consider the in...
🏹 And the idea that "This religion is a closed sect religion" is already disprove quite a lot of times. Considering Buddhism flourished outside of Tibet, India, or China.

...Indonesia has a lot of big and famous temples (we call them "Candi"). Borobudur is a World's Wonder.
🏹 This claim is also wrong 'cause that's not what sprul-pa, Tulku, or Nimanakaya. It's a lot more complexed than a mere "mind-made body".

You can see the2nd, 3rd, and 4th picture for more explanation. A sprulpa is a type of mano...In Tibetan Buddhism, a tulk...Nirmanakaya (Skt. nirmāṇakā...When it is divided, there a...
🏹 Dragonheart system also did a more in-depth reasoning. Which I quote:

"The term was the product of cultural exchange, not appropriation, and again, the only thing from Buddhism was the word, which is also completely different in modern day versus its origin."
🏹 It's also interesting that the paper we both use negates the idea that it's partly Deity Yoga too.

If the idea is that you need to do meditation to create a Tulpa... a lot of the modern guides disprove that.

We even don't recommend meditation to create a Tulpa/Headmate. Deity yoga is a process whe...Again, Tulpamancy’s more li...
🏹 And to pull other Plurality, something like a fictive forming or a writer suddenly having a headmate with the same characteristic as their story is prove enough that you don't need to do as that.

Even if we help people with Tulpamancy, we recommend doing activities.
🏹 That's honestly my take on this. I was really hoping that the system who created that carrd at the very least put out some form of source rather than just throw out something that have no prove.

And to quote Sysmeds, you gotta have prove to what you say rather than "Trust me"
🏹 And if I may go a bit emotional and personal, it feels very strange to claim that you practice a very specific sect of things and point out that it's from "South East" just so nobody can say anything.

...when someone from that area will question it.
🏹 If there's anything I missed or any question you wanna ask, feel free to either DM or reply to this thread.

Gonna tag #Syscourse again. Do be careful with that carrd about Tulpamancy, please...
