The decrease in suicide registrations in 2020 is likely to be driven by two factors

▪️ a decrease in male suicides at the start of the #coronavirus pandemic
▪️ delays in death registrations because of the pandemic

Around three-quarters of registered suicides in 2020 were among men (3,925 deaths).

In England and Wales, the 2020 male suicide rate of 15.4 deaths per 100,000 was lower than in 2019, but in line with years before that.

For the fifth consecutive year, London had the lowest rate of any region of England in 2020 (7.0 deaths per 100,000).
