I'm curious. Everyday, I have flashbacks to insignificant moments of angst or brief danger or anger or ... some other stress in my life. I've never counted but it must be 10 to 20 times a day. Fleeting moments of "argh" or "OMG" as "micro" flashbacks play. Do you all get this?
What strikes me as odd is that I'm happy, I'm content, I don't regret anything and yet I have this constant beat of "OMG, that could have happened" when it didn't happen or when what happened was so insignificant that I struggle to understand why it is coming up 30 years later.
Now, occassionally, for no obvious reason that I can find, I will also go into a very dark space ... I've never been able to make sense of it, there's no rationality to it. But oddly, I've noted that when I come out, I tend to be at my most "creative" or at least I perceive that.
X : Is this a condition like ...
Me : Before you start trying to add labels to it, this "condition" seems to be called ... normality.

X : What is the future of cloud?
Me : The future is more conversational programming and industrialisation further up the stack. Today is all about severless and FinOps with concepts like capital flow. Yesterday was all about IaaS and DevOps. Why?
X : What about hybrid?
Me : Lol.
X : Hybrid has a place!
Me : Hmmm ... as a transitional step based upon a realisation that your executive is unable to do what is necessary and you need to at least be on the boat even if it's in the hold as a stowaway living on scraps that you find.
X : Enterprise require a ...
Me : Oh, don't give me that we're special nonsense. This year (2021) is probably when AWS overtakes IBM in annual revenue. Five years from now, it'll be so far ahead, probably about 5x. The days of special pleading are long gone.

X : Have you seen the new Matrix trailer?
Me : Yep, looks fun. The entire series is pretty good.
X : You mean great?
Me : I like the Matrix but I don't buy the machines enslave humans angle. It's more likely to be humans enslave humans. I quite liked the 13th floor.
X : That was humans enslave humans?
Me : Hmmm ... not quite but it is worth watching. Dark City was pretty good as well but a real fantasy type thing. Quite fun.
X : What is you favourite science fiction film?
Me : Well, my favourite TV series is Firefly. As for film ... tough one ... it has to be Elysium just on the basis of how likely it is to predict the future. It's a true masterpiece.

X : Have you read the Health and ...
Me : ... Is this a NHS privatisation thing?
X : The bill says ...
Me: The NHS is dead. It'll be privatised entirely over time and we will have US style insurance. That's what the majority voted for at the last election. That's what they want.
X : I didn't vote for that.
Me : The electorate is all of us. We had once chance to save the NHS, to change our path. The majority decided that they didn't want that. The decision has been made. Stop fighting over the past. There are other freedoms that are under attack.
X : You don't care about the NHS?
Me : Of course I do, it was the greatest British Institution but it is going. We had our chance to stand up for it, we didn't. I'm more concerned now over other basic rights like representation, excluding people from voting, the right to protest.

X : Your son is Henry.
Me : Yep.
X : Why do you call him Harry?
Me : Harry is short for Henry.
X : Prince Harry?
Me : Henry Charles Albert David
X : What?
Me : Bob is short for Robert. Bill for William. Liz for Elizabeth, Sue for Susan, Dick for Richard. Harry for Henry ...
... these are all short form names, alternative ways of saying the given name. Why?
X : My son is called Harry.
Me : Cool. Do you mean Henry?
X : No, I mean Harry.
Me : Ok, well that's cool.
X : So, I think your son should stop calling himself Harry.
Me : Well, you can sod off.
X : Well, it's not right.
Me : Which bit? You name your child after the short name, the nickname and expect everyone else to now follow your rules? No, I don't think so. Henry can call himself Harry as much as he wants.

X : Have you looked at Myers Briggs?
Me : Yep. Why?
X : Just the pioneer, settler ...
Me : I'll stop you there. Myers Briggs can be simplified into two types - those who use critical reasoning versus those who believe in Myers Briggs. It's a scam, a self perpetuating industry.
X : You don't like it?
Me : People have been denied opportunity based upon codswallop created by one notorious racist and a fascist which has been shown to have no scientific validity. I imagine the damage done must be in the tens if not hundreds of billions. No, I don't like it.
X : A bit like astrology?
Me : Absolutely not. Astrologists have the decency not to pretend that their beliefs are some scientific field. I don't share their beliefs but fair dues to them. The Myers Briggs crowd are charlatans, con artists and they give astrology a bad name.

X : You wrote the strategy that took Ubuntu to a dominate position in cloud?
Me : I wrote and ran the strategy, it was a team effort, we went from 3% to 70% and it was long ago. Why?
X : You also ...
Me : ... lots of things. Why?
X : We need a strategy.
Me : Well, start with mapping out your landscape.
X : Can't you write a strategy for us?
Me : I could but I'm not running it and I'm not going to run it.
X : Which means?
Me : Lower your expectations.
X : Are you saying we wouldn't be able to run your strategy?
Me : One of mine? No, you can't even map. You're like a chess player who doesn't know what the board looks like.
X : I'm in charge of strategy.
Me : Awesome.
