And yet somehow I know 29 people--in my personal social/professional circle--who have had breakthrough infections. By this statistic, I guess I "probably" know 145000 people? I'm not even counting the cases I know on Twitter.
We have a good way to gauge risk: vax effectiveness rates. They ain't 1 in 5000. Covid is widely circulating in the US, which means the "average American" will come into contact with the virus. The effectiveness against infection number is a way to assess likelihood of infection.
This "pandemic of the unvaccinated" insanity will kill us all.
I'm speechless at the level of depravity these folks use to con people go out and spend money and perhaps die for the almighty economy. I thought I was a lefty before. This pandemic has totally radicalized me.
I am still reeling at how people will read this crazy "probability." 1 in 5000 means what, only around 30000 total breakthrough infections in the US? (Or in the "average" US. Lol)
If that were true, this would be the greatest vaccine in history. We'd have ended Covid already.
Look at how it was worded. "Average American" and "per day." If Covid is 1000 more contagious than previous strains (it is) an American will probably come into contact with it --unless they are isolating --on any given day. Is the Average American wearing a mask? Then sure!
But this creepy "Average American" language sure reminds me of another loaded political term: "Working families."
They're not talking about poor folks, or people of color.
This is exhausting. How do we end the pandemic when the media undermines efforts at EVERY TURN?

I’ve spent months telling people to get vax/wear a mask. I’ve spent hours convincing vax hesitant friends to vax. My family w/health risks has isolated since March, 2020.
Now, when I try to talk about possible treatment, I’m called antivax spreader of misinfo.
This is bullshit.
I’m sorry it hurts the vaccine’s feelings if someone, like, wants to treat a breakthrough infection w/more than scrappy tweets saying “I have no smell or taste and I’ve never been this sick, but gosh I’m glad I’m vaccinated!”
Vaccines are not gods demanding we genuflect to them.
We need some kind of treatment protocol for people who aren’t Joe Rogan, celebrities, CEOs or govt. officials. Almost nobody qualifies for MAbs.
We need to at least be able to discuss VITAMINS without being flagged Covid misinfo.
💉Starting thread on other Covid vaccines in the world: 🌍
The first COVID19 vaccine in India for 12-18-yr olds uses DNA-plasmid technology & can be administered needle-free. It remains stable in room temperatures for three months
“Antibodies generated in recipients of Covishield and Covaxin may fade after 2-3 months, found a team of researchers in Bhubaneswar. Is this a call for a booster shot in India?”
Our govt won't admit we're heading into numbers worse than last winter. It won't acknowledge severity or real numbers of breakthrough infections. It offers no treatment for those not hospitalized, vilifies all suggestion of repurposed, benign drugs under doctors' supervision.
Its agencies & leaders manipulate stats. It convinced parents "lost learning" is more important than healthy children, teachers & families. It arranges media blitzes to gaslight those who are careful. It obfuscates data, & deflects when caught in lies.
It turned health care workers into marines. It demanded the economy be fed with human death and disability. It gave austerity instead of aid. It paid the defense department what it owed the people. It barely acknowledges Long Covid.
Parents, if your school district doesn't offer a remote option and your state doesn't have online public charters, you can still homeschool as a stop gap until it is safe to return. State rules vary. Here is a good place to start: time4learning.com/homeschool/how…
Also, check out the online virtual learning resources at your local public library. Many have free access to basic education courses, foreign language programs and Great Courses. Libraries also often offer @Kanopy and Hoopla for cinema and documentaries.
Since I know so many people with breakthrough cases, I am hearing a lot of anecdotal from people I trust. Over half are having concerning post-illness issues: loss of smell/taste, cognitive issues, heart irregularities, high blood sugar/blood pressure, clotting problems. Others:
3 found doctors to give Ivermectin & say they feel back to normal. 1 who got sick this week says so far it's just like a bad cold.(They were fairly recently vaxxed, too.) Most report continued fatigue, feeling wiped out, "still run down." Ages are 20s-60s. #WearAMask
Do not @ me, or call me antivax or say I'm lying. In last 6 or so weeks I've known 24 who got breakthrough Covid. Most are MRNA. The number is so high because they gave it to families/roommates. It made me take notice because I could hardly believe, based on what we were told.
