Are you chasing success for the wrong reasons?

How to avoid the dark side of success and win for the right reasons.

///thread\\\
Ask yourself:

Do you feel like you are constantly chasing the dopamine hit of a win?
Do you feel like you do things because of other's expectations?
Do you do things just to beat people?

If you answered yes to any of those, you could be in the Success Trap

Let’s take a look...
Behind every victory is the desire for the next one, and that can be a good thing if you have good goals linked to a purpose.

But maybe for you, every success just makes you want more.

In reality, there is no peak to success; the climb towards the next one can become addictive.
The success trap has caught out many infamous leaders in history.

From Caser, Napoleon, to some German dude with a small mustache.

All undone by their desire for more, the next success, the next ego-boosting win.

Only to be unsatisfied at its summit.
For you, while pay raises and awards are excellent for a while.

At a certain point, once you have reached a certain level in life.

You start to realize how little they mean, and you ask yourself, are you only doing them to look good?

Is happiness really inside these things?
Now sorting out your finances and career is extremely important in life.

- Investing, having more coming in than out, and creating a safety net.

- Having a career that allows you to be you and live life on your terms.

These are concrete goals that you should aim for in life.
However, the success trap happens when you start attaching your self-worth to status and arbitrary numbers

You go after titles in organizations and society

You get so attached to a certain bank number or job role/position

You don't let yourself enjoy life until it happens...
Your EGO knows these can boost your happiness but does that happiness last?

It doesn’t when you keep chasing ever-higher summits in the hope, there's one out there only you have been able to conquer.

But really,

What you are doing is trying to fill a hole in your heart...
But if I had this, if I had more, if I were successful, people would respect me, and I would be happier, and my dreams would come true.

Wrong.

Don't fall into the Success Trap of thinking more = happiness.

You need to look for happiness in life by having the right systems.
You need to sit down today and realize:

The climb toward your goals is the real treasure.

There is only bleak emptiness at the top if you think the summit will bring you joy.

You can avoid this trap, which has caught many in life, by installing mental models that work...
If you want to go after goals that align with who you are, you 1st need to understand what you want and why.

With no why you end up chasing the wrong goals for years

7 areas in life everyone struggles with…

///thread///
Ask yourself...

Do you feel like others have it easy?

What if I told you everyone struggles, and we only tend to see the wins?

Would you believe me?

You should.

Here are the 7 areas we all struggle with…
1) No one has it figured out.

Everyone is struggling with something; most of us are making it up as we go along, seeing what sticks and repeating what works.

This idea that ‘some’ just cruise through life is a fairytale, a fantasy sold to us to make us feel inadequate.

You love to make things complicated, and it's not your fault.

But you need to stop; let's find out how.

///thread///
We are the cause of most of our complicated issues in life.

When faced with two competing options, we are more likely to choose the more complex option even if there is a simple choice available.

Welcome to complexity bias...
To beat it, you 1st need to understand why you do it

Complexity bias is our tendency to look at something easy to understand and then see it as having many difficult parts, or, we may view it as more complex while in a confused or stressed state

Let's look at three examples...

How to improve your performance by thinking about death.

You will be surprised by how effective it is.

///thread///
How do you use death to make you perform better?

Well, by thinking about Memento Mori.

Essentially, you do more because you know you will die.

But, wait, what is Memento Mori.

Well, it is a large part of Stoic philosophy…
Memento Mori is the practice of contemplating your mortality and remembering that death comes to all

In English, it translates to "remember you must die"

Sounds kind of morbid and not fun?

I know, but you need this concept in your life; it pushes you to take the right actions.

The 5 major consequences of drifting in life, avoid these at all costs.

///thread///
Drifting sounds cool to some, "go with the flow, man."

However, drifting can have serious consequences, not only for you but also for those close around you.

In most long-term situations in life, drifting is flat-out dangerous.

Avoid these 5 costly consequences...
1) Confusion.

While drifting in life, you lose perspective.

Without a clear destination in view, challenges seem impossible or pointless to face.

You will struggle to find meaning and purpose, leaving you confused and lost.

You need plans, systems, and structure to succeed.
