I don’t have much time, but Lacey‘s attorney Paul Cambria ended with a rousing defense of his client. In a booming voice he discussed how Lacey and Larkin were “the real deal “when it came to defending freedom of speech. 2/
He discussed how they were arrested by Joe Arpaio in the middle of the night but they fought back sued and won more than $3.5 million, which they then gave to charity. 3/
Cambria also discussed the millions they spent on moderation, on sending witnesses from the company to testify against pimps and predators, and millions of dollars given to organizations like Children of the Night, which helps runaways. 4/
Cambria also went on at length about their cooperation with the FBI and how after Backpage was taken down, adult oriented Advertising migrated overseas to companies that do not respond to US subpoenas 5/
Cambria asked rhetorically, if you knew about the cooperation with law-enforcement and the court rulings in Backpage’s favor would you think you were promoting a crime? The answer was obvious he said. 6/
