Today's video is a massive mess teased by a click-baity title. I also happen to think that the title is true.
The length is obscene which has the beneficial effect of mostly limiting the content of the video to my core audience that usually for vocational reasons can digest VERY LONG video content.
I make these videos not so much for the promotion of ideas but to spur insight, engagement and discussion.
A lot of what we see today both in terms of propaganda (think Ellul) and group formation is parasitic. Such groups are always dependent over the VERY long run (which we seldom appreciate the value of) upon the existence of that they're reacting against.
It's actually the far larger, older things that are far more important. Religion is the ideation that creates civilization and any healthy, lifegiving culture upon which the civilization relies. Religion, as @wellman4444 says is all about desire.
We find meaning by desiring something beautiful and truth attainment for human being is always accomplished by grouping. Idealization, attention, worship, they are all essential, inescapable and go together. @jordanbpeterson and @PageauJonathan
the best groups, most long lasting, most productive generally pursue the best, most stable, truest ideals. Those ideals have structure. Stable, archetypal ideals will become the foundation for the most enduring, most fruitful groupings.
Groupings that don't have archetypal ideals both before them in their meaningful pursuit, or beneath them as foundation will always suffering from fundamental instabilities.
Those instabilities will manifest in predictable patterns. Often feedback loops that destroy the groups and the larger movements. Purity dynamics come into play here. Purity dynamics naturally, given a difficult ideal will be generative and not self-devouring.
If you are seeking an archetypal ideal the structure of reality will itself limit the self-devouring nature of the purity dynamic. If the ideal the group is chasing is unstable or non-existent the purity dynamic will consume the group as the members consume each other.
I think M/F4L is a stable, archetypal ideal for human flourishing. It affords stable, multi-generational civilization as an ideal. Purity dynamics are naturally retarded by other structure realities.
I think part of the reason we're seeing purity dynamics consume other progressive liberationist groups is because their ideals are not archetypal and so unstable. They cannot produce the ideal sufficient to energize long term stable groupings.
I think we're running this experiment in real time and the consequence over the long term will be misery.

@SteeleMannFS @holland_tom this is like a guy coming back from a California reservoir with a glass of fresh water declaring "we absolutely must NOT get our water from the clouds..." OK...
@SteeleMannFS @holland_tom He imagines his support for gay marriage was cooked up in some Christianity free clean room. I suppose his immune system is so strong because it never met a germ.
@SteeleMannFS @holland_tom In some ways their ignorance of how history works parallels creation ex nihilo. Only someone who doesn't know Voltaire would imagine he said "and let there be godlessness..." and it was evening and morning, the first day.

I'm getting so old. I remember in the 1970s the "cutting edge" of "gender equality" was assertion that one's clothing, haircut, and various other lifestyle expressions and choices didn't define you.
Boys could have their hair long, girls could wear pants. Boys could talk about feelings, girls could play sports, that was OK.
There has now been a strange inversion where there's an expressive essentialism. It used to be that the dress didn't make the woman, now it does. I noticed representation in children's animated stories in my news feed.

Thanks to a friend we finally replaced the stolen mailbox with a mail slot here at the church.
Couldn't find what I wanted for a sign so I went to Amazon to figure out how to mark the outside of the slot to help the postal people get delivery right.
This brought me to a world of signage at Amazon I was quite unfamiliar with. Identity through propositional confessional profession appears alive and well and flourishing in the capitalist marketplace.

In today's video I summed up some of my learnings from @fullydavid and @Jonathan_Rowson from the previous day's video and refocused via @andrewklavan and @jordanbpeterson 1/4
The realization become increasingly stark of a man who correctly warns of ideology filling in the void left by the removal of religious communities himself does not participate in religious communities. I agree with his thesis. Do his actions exhibit agreement? 2/4
Must he heed his own warning? Did the pressure of the assault upon him by power media corporations yield an ideologization of his manner before the collapse in June 2019? 3/4

In today's video I comment on a video posted recently by @WisdomRebel which had a commentary between @fullydavid and @Jonathan_Rowson on the @jordanbpeterson phenomenon
@Jonathan_Rowson coined the term "Jordan Petersonitis" to label both the obsessive fascination with him that @fullydavid, myself, and many others had with him 4 years ago while others were repulsed by him out of hand. Now with some distance it's good to do some assessment.
In January 2018 @nytdavidbrooks reported a friend calling him the most influential public intellectual right then. nytimes.com/2018/01/25/opi… A quote attributed a bit ironically to "The New York Times" on the cover of his new book.

I live in all those California tensions @TheRestHistory was talking about. Glorious weather this morning. The wooded hills that ring the valley have not yet started to burn for the summer. There is a drought but we have water for today... Image
Heading into the office I need to run the familiar gauntlet of homelessness. The pandemic adds the strange iconography of medical masks as part of the normal shopping carts, feces and beer cans... Image
Because I'm a pastor, and have Jesus' story of Lazarus and the rich man haunting me I can't push it aside as nuisance or social problem. There are people living in and bringing the filth. Image
