The idea that taking your mask down or refusing to wear one and yelling/breathing in people's faces; and even COUGHING in people's faces, is a go-to protest for COVID deniers is both telling and disgusting. I can't imagine believing I have a right to force bodily fluid on people.
You have to wonder if these people also believe their rights are violated if they work in a restaurant and are instructed to wash their hands after using the toilet. Do they feel violated by having to wear shoes in stores? Shirts? There is no "right" to spread germs and viruses.
You can't walk around naked on the street or sit in a park starkers. You'd get arrested. Take that to a nude beach or accept the legal consequences. Your kids may have to wear a particular uniform in school. Seatbelts! There are all sorts of rules about what you put on your body.
But I'm just gonna guess that these same people wouldn't fight for the Black kid who gets discriminated against at school for wearing their hair the way God and their parents made it. Where's that energy for kids who wear "Black Lives Matter" shirts in school?
Masks are a public safety measure and the mandates for them exist for the purpose of promoting public health and safety in public spaces including schools, airplanes and businesses. This isn't an issue of people's inherent characteristics or self-expression. It's not complicated.
These anti-mask public ravings have the same anti-health energy that has folks using their bare feet to change the channel on airplanes or clipping their nails in public spaces (or shaving in restaurants like Rudy did). It's gross. Just really, really gross. And entitled AF.
And as a legal matter, if your deliberate actions make someone else sick, aren't you criminally liable? You can't just spit on people or hack on them. You can't possibly legally cough on them, especially DURING AN AIRBORNE PANDEMIC??? And yes I know there have been cases filed.
I've had conversations with people who work in jobs where they have to stand close to other people and they've told me masks have been a blessing to them, in that they don't have to have people breathing on them, or worry about spittle flying either way. Masks are common sense.
I can't imagine flying without one now or any time in the near future. Just think about how much gunk we breathe in. Why should some coughing rando also make people inhale the emissions from their cruddy guts? What kind of "protest" is that??? It's just gross and nasty.

Thanks for the follow. Was tempted to not respond but since I know others believe this stuff, a few things:
1. "The government" didn't make these vaccines. Private companies (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson etc.) did. Though government certainly HELPED. healthaffairs.org/do/10.1377/hbl…
2. No one is forcing anyone to take the vaccines. It's just really risky and dumb not to, especially since they're free. And increasingly there are social consequences for choosing not to. That's perfectly normal. It happens all the time in organized societies, including ours.
If for example the Biden administration says federal employees or Pentagon employees have to be vaccinated for COVID, or private companies mandate the same, it presents those employees with a choice: get vaccinated, or don't work there. Choices have consequences.

Imagine teaching your teenage children to flout public health rules. Imagine these parents doing the same with measles, with your kids in that school. These families should be disenrolled. Those kids should have been sent home immediately or just turned away. Do better, people.
And that police officer should be relieved of duty. Why is he even there? Let one of those kids violate the dress code — shorts too short, wrong slogan on the Tee — they’d be out the door. If you’re gonna have a policy, enforce it.
UPDATE: So it turns out that after these MI parents used their kids to “own the libs” by risking their health and the health of everyone at that school, their kids wound up missing a day of learning in class anyway … to own the libs. freep.com/story/news/hea…

Police wink-winking the Proud Boys, in part due to a paranoia in these departments against the Black Lives Matter movement is unfortunately not a new thing. And that likely had implications for the lax preparation for January 6. usatoday.com/story/news/nat…

What will Texas Republicans empower private citizen bullies to do next, now that they've enacted laws letting (potentially armed) thugs "watch" (Black and Latino) voters, prompted Texans to spy on women and file lawsuits for a $ bounty against anyone helping them end a pregnancy?
Will Texans be prompted to spy on teachers to ensure they are not teaching the true history of slavery and are only upholding the prim dignity of the white founding fathers? How about urging citizens to inform on and sue parents who send their children to school masked?
Texas is basically a small Soviet Republic at this point, with neighbors spying on neighbors, hoping to collect a cash bounty, in addition to being an apartheid state for nonwhite voters. What woman or POC could possibly feel safe there? To say nothing of the gun proliferation.

To understand what the GOP is doing to our democracy, you need only recall that up until just a few decades ago, every institution in America, including local-to-national government, Hollywood, the music industry and college campuses, were unambiguously controlled by white men.
Even white women waited 50 years after Black men (technically though not functionally) obtained it, to get the right to vote. And women couldn't open a bank account without a man's consent til the 1970s or legally refuse sex with their husbands until 1993. usatoday.com/story/news/fac…
And there's still no explicit all-encompassing guarantee of equal rights for women in the U.S. constitution. It is 2021. brennancenter.org/our-work/resea…

Just a reminder that pre-Civil War southerners, with the backing of the U.S. Constitution, placed all women’s individual decisions under the legal purview of men and conferred Black people to the status of property; meaning white men owned their bodies and their reproduction.
Also white pre-Civil War self-declared Christian men, including those who lacked the resources to purchase humans at a slave auction or inherit their bodies, labor and reproduction like a herd of cattle were willing to die in a treasonous war in order to maintain that system.
And when the North whupped them good for their treachery, they spent 100 odd years committing terrorism against those they believed were their property including firebombing churches, seeking to deny them the right to vote, to live free of humiliation and to survive economically.
