Already a significant PPC protest crowd outside the Gatineau location of tonight’s debate. The PPC called for a 6:30 start. I expect lots of stragglers to show up before the 9 p.m. start.
There’s a band.
PPC organizers are handing out signs. I’d estimate around 150 people here, usual caveats about reporter crowd estimates notwithstanding.
You can’t pin down the crowd. Young people, families with young kids, older folks.
“The virus is communism,” says one supporter in the crowd. A cheer of Viva PPC sparks up.
There’s a small crowd of Unifor members here, so scratch that off your 2021 Election Bingo Cards.
Gatineau police now clearing the streets in anticipation of the leaders arriving. I’d guess the crowd is around 300, including @Justin_Ling.
(I assume he’s here as a journalist.)
Crowd remains peaceful as the first RCMP SUV goes through. Gatineau police getting more insistent about their people staying clear of the road.
There is still a band.

After giving it some thought, the calls to defund Paw Patrol are misguided. The Paw Patrol is not the police. They’re a terrorist cell. 1/n
How does Ryder recruit members of his patrol? The limited evidence we have suggests he preys on vulnerable pups. Both Rubble and Everest were abandoned, searching for purpose. 2/n
(For this analysis, we’ll leave aside tracker, who has already been radicalized to a life of asymmetrical warfare by Carlos, who is clearly a foreign affiliate of the PP.) 3/n
We’re still awaiting the actual report, but the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) has released some high-level findings about foreign interference in Canada.
1. Foreign interference pose a “significant and growing threat to the rights and freedoms of Canadians and to Canada’s sovereignty.”
2. While the intelligence community have taken “measures to address specific incidents of foreign interference,” “Canada has been slow to react to the threat.”
The B.C. and federal privacy commissioners have released their report into Facebook and Cambridge Analytica. priv.gc.ca/en/opc-actions…#cdnpoli
The top level findings are not surprising: Facebook failed to get meaningful consent from users, from users' friends who unknowingly had their data harvested, the company had inadequate privacy safeguards and failed to be accountable for user information in its control.
"These failures are extremely concerning given that in a 2009 investigation of Facebook, the OPC also found contraventions with respect to seeking overbroad and uninformed consent for disclosures of personal information to third-party apps."
