Right, all these arguments comparing mRNA vaccines to seatbelts doesn't make me think "Oh, all right then, how stupid of me"

It actually makes me begin to perceive seatbelt laws—as laws—as not American, but ""American""

As in contrary to the fundamental American character
And by contrast to the vax, I have no objection to seatbelts, as far as I know there are no real tradeoffs (please tell me there isn't a seatbelt-pill)

But that only makes the insistence on seatbelt laws stranger: custom should have accomplished the same as laws, very fast.
Delegating these decisions to insta-law by the Law-Givers, instead of leaving it to the people to organically adopt as custom, which then becomes tradition, suggests to me an imposition of values from a Managerial Class onto a Managed Class.
And I dunno, maybe this was even good back when our Managers were people who could invent things that would actually save thousands of lives, with zero drawbacks, and could just say "It's good for you, trust us, do it or else"
That being obviously not the case now, and in fact the opposite—maybe the hard opposite—it is arguably an unalloyed bad to accustom a hard-headed, we'll-figure-it-out-ourselves people, the strongest virtue *of* that people, to give that virtue up
The legal/managerial process of robbing a Wild West-minded people of their inborn ability to organically adjust to things for themselves also neuters us of the ability to invent things for the remaining frontiersmen to run wild with
It's just interesting that the greatest CARS peaked in the '50s through early '70s, when none of these laws and regulations existed, and now we're all driving these horrible embarrassing contraptions that are the automotive equivalent of eating the bugs and living in the pod

The hereditarian left is a dead end, because leftism is the belief that we are all interchangeable gray goo. Any deviance from this is fascism

The further-leftists quoted in the piece explain this perfectly: "hereditarian left" is an exact oxymoron

newyorker.com/magazine/2021/…
The funniest part of this piece is when the profilee uses her knowledge of genetics to deboonk a couple of conservative interventions while failing to understand that her own ideology is nothing but a giant heap of interventions all based on the exact same wrong assumption
Since leftism can't accept that nearly all inequality is the result of natural (and thus unsolvable) processes, believing instead it's the result of social processes solvable through correct application of rational policy, it literally cannot believe in humans having genes

I just watched a Sargon video for the first time in like three years and actually thought it was... pretty decent

He's even lost a lot of weight. Happy for the lad. These are strange times. This is the first time I post this pic unironically
This is the vid, btw. Unless you're an old school fan of The Skeptics and owning SJWs on YouTube, I recommend just going to the last five minutes when he's reading superchats, and talking in a way I never would have expected just a few years ago

This is an account that respects people rejecting their former progressivism, even if they don't go as far as I'd like myself.

So congrats, Sargon. You look better, and your life seems better.

Nobody cares about ""conservative principles"" anymore, Quillette. Everyone understands that's just a weasel-phrase used by the absolute worst worms to get people to swallow the latest Propaganda Update

No wonder Australia is becoming such a complete sub-Canadian horror-show
"The necessity to submit to a host of lies we're too stupid to understand as we strip them of every liberty we can will make a few of our Enemy angry, of course.

But they will still have the 'freedom' to do that. To lose all their freedom to lies. Lol" Image
This is a deep, humiliating embarrassment, @clairlemon. It reveals that neither you or any of your staff understands any of the actual counter-positions here, which makes you nothing more than janitors for a hilariously authoritarian Australian government

lmao. Like this hasn't already happened? Why do you think leftist politics have become so shriveled and boring? Why the same is true of the entire culture? Why are the only interesting things happening outside it?

The cow bolted the barn 5-8 years ago

theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…
"We can't let this take over or else everything will become boring, predictable, and mediocre," says person who hasn't yet noticed that nothing their culture now creates is worth watching, reading, listening to, or thinking about

Even this piece itself
"By the way I strenuously repeat that most of what's causing this is wonderful and so I will offer no real criticism of the illiberalism that is completely destroying the culture I love" is about as condensed as liberal thought gets

I was an unquestioning left-liberal until roughly 2014, btw. A lot of what I talk about is me explaining how I got from there to here.

"AMA" if you want to Reddit-out with me on a rare non-anti-social moment
lmao, this is very fun but also impossible to keep up with. Several questions about my initial red-pills, I will try to answer that one in this main thread, but the gist is "I finally understood they were lying to me"
So 2014 was a weird period where a lot of what is now known as the "Successor Ideology" or Wokeness was sweeping across every sub-community

If you believed in liberalism, it was clear they didn't. This would require infinite characters to explain, but if you were there, you know

"Journalists are pro-war because the boss-man pays them to be pro-war" is massive leftist cope

When you view all humanity as interchangeable economic units, as leftism does, this justifies and even requires imperialist war against anyone who rejects their gray goo ideology
Not everything can be reduced to leftist materialism. Why do you think the Afghanistan war failed in the first place. Why do you think "lol but you're voting against your economic self-interests!" has never won over a single conservative state

This isn't about *money*
It turns out that, contrary to the ruling elite's beliefs, a great deal of life is *not* about money

Funny that you, and the pro-war journos you "criticize," believe that's actually all that matters to existence

And then you pretend there's any distance between you and them
