The ancient walled city was once known as "the city of 1001 churches", "the city of 40 gates", and "the world city". 17th century texts mention a remaining 200 churches. The city was left in ruins and abandoned around 1735.
Two original editions of the map were made, one was lost in 1494. In the description of England it states "In ancient times Anglia was inhabited by giants, but some Trojans who had survived the slaughter of Troy came to this island, fought its inhabitants and defeated them"

On May 31, 1578 a catacomb containing an estimated 500,000 remains was discovered near Rome’s Via Salaria road. The Catholic church distributed some of the remains throughout Northern Europe. Most of the decorated skeletons disappeared c1900
