I have read the document on which CBC is based. There're lots of issues on that document that bother me. These include;
1. It assumes that there was no education system in Kenya before CBC. Instead of building on what was there it imposes a system straight from another country
2. It ignores all the realities that exist in Kenya and assumes that what has worked elsewhere will work here. The countries quoted in the document such as Germany, Malaysia, Finland, Sweden, India have different economic and cultural realities
#CBCmustfall
3. It assumes that all the infrastructure, manpower and materials to run CBC exist in the country which is not correct
#CBCmustfall
4. It assumes we have uniform standards of living as you would find in a highly developed country. For instance, it says that ICT will be at the centre of the implementation. Thus it assumes everyone involved in it has ICT equipment and is ICT literate
#CBCmustfall
5. It ignores the fact that we have curricular & extracurricular activities. It wants to turn extracurricular activities into academic subjects...
...It offers a baseless proposal that one cannot be successful in both curricular and extracurricular activities. If you are good in sports you are assumed unfit for academia.
#CBCmustfall
6. It confuses basic education with tertiary education. It proposes that after senior secondary school some students will receive artisan certification and go into employment...
...If secondary schools are for attaining work skills what's the role of higher education. How do you certify a 17 year old for employment?
#CBCmustfall
7. It assumes the country has no unemployment challenge. This means a 14 year old is condemned to a rigid career path with the assumption that enough job vacancies awaits them. Nothing can be further from the reality.
#CBCmustfall
8. It is clear to me that these are foreign inspired ideas. The ideas have been imported and imposed without local adaptation.
#CBCmustfall
We need to critically examine this system. We should suspend it immediately until all concerns raised are addressed.
We should trace our path back to the original 8-4-4 curriculum.

1/ Those saying Mount Kenya should get 40% positions in the next government should get their heads examined. What have 35 years at the presidency helped us? Do government positions benefit the tribe or the individuals and their cronies?
2/ What we need are leaders who can deliver for the whole country. If the whole country benefits Mt Kenya will benefit as well. There are no challenges unique to Mt Kenya that can only be solved by someone from the religion.
3/ If the energy Minister is from Mt Kenya it doesn't mean we will be buying fuel at a cheaper price than other Kenyans. If the agriculture minister is from Mt Kenya our tea will not sell at a higher price than that from other places.

1/ It is hard to understand how some people reason. You raise very specific issues about CBC and someone responds by saying how they like it and how we should give it a chance. Why not address the issues raised?
2/ Some people think that CBC is just a different content delivery methodology. CBC is an entire system of education which is very different from 8-4-4 and which is totally inappropriate for our current economic realities.
3/ Most of the people praising CBC are doing so out of ignorance. They have not read the foundational documents for the system. They do not understand its proposals on career progression for their children. This is irresponsible parenting.

VENDOR-DRIVEN, LOOTING-FOCUSED INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS CANNOT BENEFIT OUR ECONOMY

THREAD
1/10
@DavidNdii @MihrThakar @JKNjenga
When people talk of infrastructure as an economic enabler they need to understand that this can only be so if the said infrastructure is based on clear economic objectives.
2/11
It should also be built at competitive prices and should be sustainably financed.
Look at some of the projects Tanzania is doing. These projects make a lot of economic sense and have been done at very fair cost. They have also been locally funded.
