The article says the glitch occurred at two locations and that affected voters were given provisional ballots. 
Journalists & election security advocates shld be able to report problems w/ election equipment w/o people ** assuming ** they are either: (a) nefarious or (b) benign. Read it, note it, demand a transparent investigation, but pls keep baseless assumptions to yourself. 1/
Otherwise, journalists will stop reporting problems (or underplay them), which is dangerous. To an extent, this occurred in 2016 in response to Trump’s baseless claim the election would be rigged against him (despite Russia interfering on his behalf). I’m seeing it again now. 2/
3/ If everyone assumes that voting problems are benign, then malicious activity (if any) may be overlooked. If everyone assumes that voting problems are malicious, then officials & vendors will bury problems, which is also bad. DON’T ASSUME.
