The horrific levels of gender-based violence in #LdnOnt this past weekend that includes over 30 students drugged at Western and sexual violence, plus a young woman murdered in northwest London, is a stark reminder of how prevalent GBV is.
Like many, this is personal for me. I've been working on issues of gender equity my entire life, I just sent my own daughter off to university residence - prepared as possible but with onus not being on her to protect herself but on all of us, institutions and government
NDP's plan includes implementing a National Action Plan on GBV with stable funding, sexual violence prevention programs on campuses nationally,10 days paid leave days for domestic violence & implementation of MMIWG calls to justice +working with orgs/survivors across the country
But we also need to hold government and institutions to account on follow through. Sexual violence & harassment are all too common in politics, parties military and the RCMP. Accountability needs to be demanded because it hasn't been there in past gov't.
