You live somewhere deep blue. But in deep-red Marinette County, WI (67% for Trump), most folks have no idea what Dems really stand for. Local Dems are running an experiment: billboards, radio ads, and more to change the narrative. Chip in to help them: secure.actblue.com/donate/marinet…
Wisconsin is the only state where 4 of the last 6 presidential elections came down to less than 1%. Next year, we have the statewide race to beat Ron Johnson (last elected w/ 50.2%) and reelect @GovEvers (who won by 1.1%). Margins in small rural counties will really matter.
In fact, if you look at 2020, increased Democratic turnout in the 21 reddest counties in WI (nearly all rural!) added up to more than President Biden’s margin of victory. If we hadn’t organized *everywhere*, even in places where Trump dominated, we would’ve lost here.
Marinette County, population 40,350, welcomed Trump for a highly publicized presidential visit in January of 2020. That November, the county cast 15,304 votes for Trump and 7,366 votes for Biden.
After the tallying ended, a group of local activists launched a task force to figure out how to build Democratic strength in a county where most people get their info about Democrats from Fox News and right-wing talk radio.
The members of the Marinette Democratic Task Force talked to neighbors about where they got their news, looked for low-cost, high-impact ways to communicate, and started raising money to make their case. They’ve got ads running on local radio as you read this.
Nobody’s under any illusions about the challenge. It’s not likely that Marinette County will suddenly flip from red to blue. But for Dems, even losing by less in places like Marinette can mean victory statewide.
And, in fact, there’s some evidence for the idea that communicating to people about what Democrats stand for, and facts about our track record when in leadership, can change partisan identification. politico.com/news/magazine/…
The well-organized Dems in this rural county party are asking for help to ramp up their experiment. Local donors have offered to match donations that we mobilize here. Can you chip in to help them? secure.actblue.com/donate/marinet…

Rebecca Kleefisch, Scott Walker’s extreme-right Lieutenant Governor, just announced her campaign for governor against Tony Evers. #RadicalRebecca is wrong for Wisconsin. Learn more at this new site, and read this thread for 10 reasons why: radicalrebecca.com
1. #RadicalRebecca is wrong for Wisconsin because she supported repealing the ACA, gutting protections for people w/ pre-existing conditions. She supported WI joining the lawsuit against the ACA, which would’ve stripped protections for 2.4m Wisconsinites. jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
2. #RadicalRebecca is wrong for Wisconsin because @RebeccaForReal wants to make it harder for people to vote—specifically, people with disabilities, young people, people of color, and low-income Wisconsinites.
Rebecca Kleefisch, who just filed her paperwork to run for governor, released what amounts to her campaign platform through her dark-money 1848 Project. It has zero proposals to increase vaccination or prevent COVID deaths. What does it have instead? 🧵 jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
Radical Rebecca Kleefisch's platform for governor does not involve beating the COVID pandemic.
Instead, she prioritizes beating those who want to beat the pandemic.
Specifically, she proposes blocking private employers from requiring that their workers get COVID vaccines.
Kleefisch also promises to "stop the possibility of church closures in a pandemic." But again, nothing about stopping... the pandemic.
THREAD: Mere hours after releasing a radical policy manifesto, Scott Walker’s Lt Gov @RebeccaforReal filed paperwork to run for gov in 2022. We know Kleefisch isn’t interested in unifying Wisconsin or finding solutions. Her record says so. Let's review. apnews.com/article/wiscon…
First, as Rebecca Kleefisch continues to waffle on her decision on when to officially announce her candidacy, let’s remember that she supported Scott Walker’s legislation that led to a historic teacher shortage. money.cnn.com/2017/11/17/new…
Kleefisch also notoriously supported repealing the Affordable Care Act, which would result in 430,000+ Wisconsinites losing their insurance, ending protections for 2.5m Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions, and severely damaging our state’s economy. jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
THREAD: Donald Trump and Wisconsin Republicans just ramped up their attacks on democracy in the state that put Biden in the White House. Help @WisDems stop them. Read, share, & become a monthly donor to help us reach our 99-donor goal by midnight 8/31: secure.actblue.com/donate/stop-vo…
You might have seen the photo or news stories about Robin Vos, Wisconsin’s Republican State Assembly Speaker, flying to meet Trump on a private jet to assure him that he’s fully on board the plan to shred democracy. Why did this happen? It’s the key to a much bigger picture.
Here’s why, no matter where you live in the USA, you should be obsessed with Wisconsin if you care about American democracy: Trump’s plan for 2024 involves stealing or overturning the election results. And he knows he can’t do that without Wisconsin.
