the phenomenon of rock stars like morrissey and johnny lydon going from being leftist counterculture figures in their youth to becoming far right deranged freaks in old age isn't bc that is the new counterculture, it's bc they've finally internalized that they're bourgeois now
"oh look, these extremely wealthy celebrities have the same worldview as charles koch and peter thiel, how edgy and countercultural!" no, their wealth has rotted their brains and they barely remember the class they originally came from. it's a faint memory of another lifetime
another though less extreme case of this is bob dylan. at a certain point he just stopped giving a fuck, and that point just so happened to coincide w/ the exact moment that he was becoming a rock star and accruing massive wealth. chomsky has some interesting commentary on that: 
but it's not universal, some remain committed to principles throughout, and it's always those who had coherent principles to begin with. neil young comes to mind (see theguardian.com/us-news/2020/m…). most just become garden variety libs though, which is also a reflection of class status
