James Lindsay would cancel all of his political adversaries if he could.

Shame on every "heterodox thinker" who promoted this guy as some kind of free speech ally.
I mocked that professor's tweets, too, because they were objectively stupid and offensive. What I did *not* do is call for her to be fired.

It used to blow my mind that people who claimed to be nonpartisan, politically tribeless free speech advocates were so easily duped by mediocre shitposters like James Lindsay.

Now I realize "politically tribeless" is a tribe defined by a common enemy, and they defend their own.
Republicans *love* cancel culture. They're just jealous when the left wields their favorite weapon.
Cancel culture is a "moral obligation," says anti-cancel culture intellectual cosplayer
Cancel culture is bad, also this professor should be fired, said the very principled person.

Texas' abortion ban effectively criminalizes all kinds of constitutionally-protected speech and deputizes snitches-for-profit.

It's a free speech nightmare.
If you post publicly-available information — such as an abortion clinic's operating hours — you face the distinct possibility of defending yourself against a civil suit filed by a stranger-snitch who stands to make thousands of dollars off of you. businessinsider.com/texas-abortion…
If Texas' abortion ban is allowed to stand, states could ban other rights upheld by the Supreme Court — such as gay marriage or gun ownership rights — and then delegate enforcement to citizen litigators.

Public sector labor unions — many with close ties to the Democratic establishment — are digging in their heels and refusing to support vaccine mandates for their members.

Elected officials should call their bluff. businessinsider.com/public-sector-…
By opposing vaccine mandates, the unions are sending mixed messages about worker safety — given the fact that nothing can make a workplace safer than a fully-vaccinated staff. businessinsider.com/public-sector-…
If Democrats insist the vaccinated wear masks indoors out of "solidarity" with the unvaccinated, they should show some spine, risk offending a powerful donor constituency — public sector labor unions — and hold them to the same vaccine mandates. businessinsider.com/public-sector-…

The "no lockdowns, no masks, no vax, and definitely no vaccine passport" crowd will still be accommodated:

"New Yorkers will be able to continue to dine outdoors without showing proof of vaccination."
I still oppose govt mandating private businesses to demand proof of vaccination, just as I still oppose govt banning private businesses from demanding proof of vaccination.

But it's still the willfully-unvaccinated that are a problem for all of us. businessinsider.com/delta-variant-…
There are legitimate concerns about NYC taking the "proof of vaccine" decision out of private businesses' hands — particularly bc of government's tendency toward mission creep and making "emergency" measures permanent.

Rightist social media stars are sharing this unattributed video.

Apparently, he's a Youtuber who goes by "Modern Renaissance Man."

No idea if he's got "two medical degrees" but the About page on his channel advertises: "Comdey [sic]," "ministry," and "self help"
As far as I can tell, this clip went viral after serial plagiarist and TPUSA meme-maker Benny Johnson shared it, so I'm gonna need some more info before I buy that it's not staged.
It's been several hours and I'm still seeing people who should know better credulously sharing this video without asking for even the slightest bit of context or confirmable facts

I have no idea whether COVID leaked from a lab or not.

I do know Jon Stewart's reputation as a heroic, anti-authoritarian skeptic is wildly overrated.

This is the same guy that let RFK Jr. spout anti-vaxx BS for 20 minutes on the "Daily Show" without even cursory pushback.
Here's Jon Stewart, science expert and brave truth-teller, lapping up RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine nonsense. cc.com/video/uwf623/t…
Everyone makes mistakes, even Jon Stewart.

The difference is people with actual integrity acknowledge those mistakes, especially when their audiences are legion. acsh.org/news/2015/08/0…
