Erin O’Toole claims to be pro-choice and someone who stands up to protect women’s rights. Actions speak louder than words.
Let’s look at Mr. O’Toole’s record and see who he’s really standing up for ⬇️ 🧵
(spoiler alert: it’s not for the rights of women) #elexn44#cdnpoli
Erin O’Toole courted special interest groups to win the Conservative leadership. The anti-choice Wilberforce Project, which has boasted about its efforts to elect anti-choice MLAs in Alberta, called O’Toole’s win a “victory for our issue because we have a seat at the table.”
During the leadership, Right Now, an anti-choice advocacy group, ranked O’Toole a close 3rd behind Leslyn Lewis & Derek Sloan in part because of his “100% pro-life voting record”
Erin O’Toole’s “100% pro-life voting record” includes voting in favour of Bill C-225, which tried to make it illegal to cause injury or death to a preborn child. This was a backdoor attempt at making abortion illegal. ipolitics.ca/2016/10/19/bil…
Erin O’Toole is already following through on his commitments to the anti-choice movement. He already said he would let a province restrict access to abortion services.
In his first year as Conservative leader, Erin O’Toole also let 81 of his MPs, 78 of which are currently candidates, support anti-choice legislation. ctvnews.ca/politics/major…
He would let them support anti-choice bills again. In the 2017 leadership, O'Toole promised that “Members of his Caucus would be free to introduce Private Members Bills or Motions on matters of conscience” - a free pass to introduce bills to limit a woman's right to choose.
And in his 2020 leadership campaign, he reiterated his commitment to let both Conservative MPs and Cabinet Ministers vote in favour of bills to restrict access to abortion. thestar.com/politics/feder…
So far, 56 Conservative candidates have been endorsed by the Campaign Life Coalition, a group that works to elect anti-choice MPs. That includes 17 members of Erin O’Toole’s shadow cabinet & leadership team.
What’s clear is that O’Toole will say one thing to win votes from anti-choice Conservatives and another when he’s talking to all Canadians. We saw the same thing with Andrew Scheer.
A reminder that Jagmeet Singh thinks Erin O’Toole is “in line” with Canadians on women’s and LGBTQ2 rights, and hasn’t ruled out helping O’Toole form government
What’s happening in Texas makes it clear that we can't let women’s rights be eroded. Canadian women deserve a leader who will stand up for women's rights. That’s not Erin O’Toole.
Justin Trudeau and the entire Liberal team will always defend a woman’s right to choose. Learn more about our plan here: liberal.ca/our-platform/p…

1/ Anti-choice film “Unplanned” was screened in Ottawa just last month, where MPs Arnold Viersen, Michael Barrett, Brad Trost and Harold Albrecht were in attendance. This is an insult to a woman’s right to choose.
2/ These same MPs, and 8 others, also stood on stage with the film’s anti-choice activist Abby Johnson.
3/ This film was screened again last night in Edmonton as part of a “Battle for Canada” event. Faytene Grasseschi, is an event organizer who participated in the screening.
