AI content + display ads = 💰❓

Is this a profitable way to monetize niche sites? Here are my thoughts on whether AI content get you:

1️⃣ Traffic
2️⃣ Rankings
3️⃣ $$$
I've played around with AI content a little bit. I'm going to highlight ONE page I created with it.

What you need to know:

* published on 26th July
* 1100 words
* low comp keyword in low comp niche
* published on established site
* no links built
1️⃣ Traffic

So far, just that article has gained 278 pageviews. Ok numbers but nothing amazing.

So YES, AI content *can* generate traffic ✅ Image
2️⃣ Rankings

Page is ranking for it's target KW + longtails. Tbh, I'm pretty happy with that.

So YES, AI content *can* rank for keywords ✅ Image
3️⃣ $$$

The one everyone cares about. Yes! So far it's generated a whopping $7.52 in display ad earnings.

So YES, AI content *can* make money ✅ Image
The next sections cover some notes & observations I had.

Warning: these may be pretty dull. So each tweet has an image of a goat attached in case you prefer to look at that.

Read on for notes & goats:
The article took me approx 30 mins to create.

HOWEVER, that was after playing around with the tool over a weekend. There is a learning curve.

If I'd done 'proper' work instead, I would have made a lot more $$$.

But sometimes it's good to chase curiosity not money. Image
For this to be profitable, you really need to do it at scale.

(See: jsvxc.com/scaling-conten…)

I need to repeat the process for 13 other articles just to cover the costs of the AI tool.

That's not taking into account my time and sanity. Image
This is a low comp keyword (0 KD) in a very low comp niche.

I do not think I'd get the same results in any competitive space.

There's also certain content types this is not suited too. No one wants to read thought leadership content from a robot. Image
The site I tested this on is 18 months old, almost 300 indexed posts. I've done no link building on it.

But the first 100k words were written by a subject matter expert (human).

Results on a fresh domain may vary. Image
Yes it's AI content but it still reads well, makes sense and is formatted for readability.

I'm sure you could speed up the process by just spinning content. But I'm more interested in not filling my site with crap. Image
This is one article on one website.

It's not really a good sample size at all to make any decisions on (that's coming soon). Image
Anything else people want to know?

Reply to the thread and I'll try to answer as best I can (based on my limited experience so far).

Here's an easy & FREE keyword research tip to find related terms on a page:

1) go to a page in Chrome
2) delete the URL
3) related term suggestions will appear

Some use cases below...
1) Map out talking points for long form content

If I was writing a guide to pizza, a section about the history would be useful to include.

Example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizza Image
2) Ecommerce content ideas

Drop in a product/category page and get potential content ideas.

Example: ikea.com/gb/en/cat/fitt… Image

Most people fail at building a successful online business.

Why?

Because they focus on the wrong stuff.

Here’s an easy framework to stay on track:
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say
"Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

Interesting discussion over on reddit about FAQ spam sites.

Put together some notes including:

* how mass posts get indexed
* AI content
* white hat SEO tips
* programming resources
* example sites
* keyword research process
* aged domain selection

Quick disclaimer:

This is not my opinion or thoughts. Just a collection of notes I made + any useful Q&As pulled from the discussion. Do with them whatever you want.

If you disagree, that's cool. If you agree, that's cool.
What is a PAA question/answer spam site?

Automated sites that take content from People Also Ask, rewrite the content & publish in bulk.

They look like this:
* askinglot.com
* everythingwhat.com
* midogguide.com

Another reason to give stuff a go with SEO...

... you might accidentally make your own luck.

A thread of expired domains, hiring a VA, underpants & luck:
1) Expired domains 🖥️

Last year I bought an expired domain for:

* experimenting on
* testing to see if they work for myself
* to refine my process of going from keyword to live article.
* force me into delegating work to a VA
I promised myself no more domain purchases (lol) but this one ticked a lot of boxes:

* cheap .com
* low DR competitors
* evergreen topic
* 100+ low comp KWs
* can monetize w/ ads + digital products

How to learn #SEO by doing SEO (and not just reading about it)

A thread of useful resources + random thoughts to help newcomers:
Best way to learn SEO (IMHO) is to give it a go.

Can you ride a bike?

Did you learn by reading every book & article about bikes that you could find?

Or did you just actually get on a bike and give it a go?
If you need courses to kickstart your learning, check out free ones & resources before you drop $$$.

This is not anti-courses but...
