How qualified are the new and promoted members of the cabinet?
Let's judge some of them by their own words and actions.
Thread 🧵👇
Liz Truss - Foreign Secretary.
Truss, the former Women and Equalities minister & Secretary of International Trade, was a part of "Britannia Unchained" which called British workers lazy.
She also said that the "UK focuses on fashionable race, sexuality and gender issues."
Nadhim Zahawi - Education Secretary.
Zahawi's musical tie went off during a debate about cutting EMA a £30 weekly allowance for poor students.
Attended a men-only dinner club event which saw female staff groped & harrassed.
Claimed £5000 expenses to power his stables.
Nadine Dorries - Culture Secretary
The MP who ditched her constitutents to appear on reality show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
Shared doctored right-wing propaganda, used ableist and racist slurs online. Also said Black colleague Chuka Umunna looked like Chris Eubank.
Anne Marie Trevelyan - International Trade Secretary.
Trevelyan made news last year when she shared racist memes about China at the start of the pandemic. She's also pro-fracking despite knowing it would damage her local national park.
Stephen Barclay - Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
The former Brexit Minister, Barclay, succeeds Michael Gove. He appeared on Question Time last year and stumbled over the number of people who had received Coronavirus testing.
All in all, it's another bunch of Tory cabinet ministers who are completely unsuitable for public office.
This country deserves so much better!

To kick off LGBTQ+ History Month, here's a 🧵 on our legal history in the UK. It all started with...
The Buggery Act in 1533...
Passed during the reign of King Henry VIII, this act moved the issue of sodomy from the ecclesiastical courts to the state. The Act did not explicitly target homosexual acts between men as it also applied to sodomy between men and women, and acts between a person and an animal.
However, it was male homosexual convictions that were by far the most common and publicised. Convictions under the Buggery Act were punishable by death. Eventually, the Buggery Act was repealed and replaced by the Offences Against the Person Act 1828.
Following conversations with the @dontpayuk campaign and consultation with our members, we support Don’t Pay UK’s intervention into the cost of living crisis, which aims to mobilise 1 million pledges for a payment strike against extortionate prices.
Here's why 🧵
@dontpayuk End Fuel Poverty Coalition estimates that if the energy price cap is frozen at £2,500, 6.9 million UK households will still be in fuel poverty this winter - up from 4.6 million last winter.
It’s not a case of don’t pay, it’s can’t pay.
@dontpayuk This is while our government bails out energy companies at our expense, to the tune of £130 billion.
Truss is taking money from those who need it most and making the rich even richer.
The UK is supposed to be a democracy - but everyone knows it's not really the people who are in charge.
Our electoral and parliamentary systems are outdated, and the ruling class face no consequences for their blatant corruption and greed.
Here's our plan for change 🧵
We need to build a flourishing democracy in which everyone can participate on an equal basis. This means creating a fair voting system, experimenting with new forms of decision making, and respecting and empowering all nations of the UK.
That’s why we will:
1. Implement a Proportional Representation voting system in all UK elections.
Low pay, poor work conditions and insecure employment plague our society.
While millions struggle, the rich continue to get richer, hiding their profits in tax havens rather than investing them in the things we need to build a sustainable future.
Here's our plan for change 🧵
To build an economy that provides security, dignity and opportunity for all, we need to redistribute wealth and power from the rich to the poor.
Working people should enjoy higher incomes and be able to spend time on the things that make life worth living.
That's why we will:
1. Set up a National Sustainable Investment Bank (NSIB) capable of financing infrastructure projects such as council housing, public transport and alternative energy production at low or zero rates of interest.
Not content with just making it even harder for refugees to reach British shores, Priti Patel has also snuck in some new anti-protest laws at the last minute.
