This is a major victory for #academicfreedom, and for everyone who worked tirelessly to let their colleagues know about the censure and to uphold and respect its conditions. #uoftcensure (2/9)
For those who missed it, here's a summary of what the #uoftcensure is: (3/9)
The University has presented Dr. Azarova with an offer of employment that, amongst other things, included protections for academic freedom equivalent to that enjoyed by academic staff members of the @utfaculty. After careful consideration, Dr. Azarova has declined the offer.(4/9)
While the principal condition of the censure (re-offering Dr. Azarova the position) has been met, the censure cannot be fully ended until the University resolves all the issues in the case... (5/9)
... including explicitly extending academic freedom protections to academic managerial positions and developing policies that prohibit donor interference in internal academic affairs. (6/9)
We want to thank those who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the censure and helped academics across the country take action to respect and uphold it. Especially everyone at @censureuoft! 🙏 #uoftcensure (8/9)
Finally thank you to every single one of you who cancelled events, refused appointments and honours, and otherwise took action to defend academic freedom. Collective action works👏, and this wouldn't have been possible without all of your efforts. #uoftcensure (9/9)
