BUS PARADE! Celebrating the inaugural ride of new Route 85 with @ancpeoplemover! 🚏Downtown 🚌 🚏West Anc 🚌 🚏Loussac Library 🚌 🚏 Dimond Center Mall! #ANCgov
Also, this is definitely the cleanest city bus system I've used! And the best name "People Mover"
Like the old Route 36, Route 85 will head through Turnagain and serve part of West Anc that current routes don't serve.
(yes, I'm live tweeting a bus ride)
You could take the bus to Rustic Goat, the Library and Dimond Mall!
I'll wave at my house, that I just left in order to drive to catch the bus πŸ˜‚
Sat on the wrong side for sight seeing. There goes Lake Hood, on to Spenard Road and Midtown!
Now heading to Midtown, on 36th to the library. Cook Inlet Housing looking good!
Lots of new buildings going up on 36th, looking good!
Just passed the library! A couple people waved. About 30 minutes ride from Downtown, for reference.
Now we're turning from Denali to 40th, heading toward Old Seward.
University Mall. You could take this route to the DMV. Or order furniture, for delivery at least πŸ˜‚
Going past every car sales & rental place in town, it seems, on Old Seward. #zoning
Peanut Farm! Sports are probably happening! You can take the bus to sports.
We're at the mall already, just another 15 minutes from the library! Also, these pictures are terrible, but also it's hard to make, like, a hundred strip malls in a row look scenic, guys.
We made it to the Dimond Center in 45 minutes from Downtown! Mall to mall in less than an hour, teenagers take note. (Do the kids still go to the mall these days? I was never young)
Heading back downtown the way we came! And also, Anchorage has a place (still) called Y2K Liquor #neverforget
Totally empty parking lot at ABC RV Rentals... Are they closed, or is the RV shortage still happening in a big way?
Back to the library! You can take the bus to a movie, too! Actually, two different theaters, come to think of it. If you do a late night movie, check the schedule to make sure it's still running when it you get out! (Do we have 24 service here, I don't know)
Bus ride & bowling! Center Bowl is a Spenard classic.
Almost back downtown!
Past my favorite little building, Cafe 817 & the Muffin Man!
And, back downtown at noon as promised! Fun little ride this morning.
Thanks for "riding" this thread along the new Route 85 with the bus parade! Thanks @ancpeoplemover for expanding service. The route *actually* starts Monday, Sep 20! 🚏🚌 #ANCgov
Sadly Center Bowl is not on Twitter, irl only.
The three big economic centers of Anchorage: @ANCdowntown , Midtown (home of @anchlibrary), and the retail & industrial corridor of Dimond-Abbott (home of @dimondcenter)! 🚏🚌🚏🚌🚏

Enjoying lunch with the business community at today's Make It Monday forum, hosted by the Anchorage Chamber. Mayor Bronson is giving a State of the City report.

Just a few clarifications: 🧡 Image
1. Mayor starts with snow. Says this year's heavy snow that overwhelmed our response was "unprecedented." Except for last year's big early snow.
So, the "plan" was an emergency on day 1.

He also "added $1.5 million for contractual services." Not for Muni staff. Just outsourcing.
2. "Public safety is number 1."

The mayor's draft budget left $12 million on the table. Missed opportunities to address critical workforce recruitment & retention, like keeping police & fire competitive, and emergency mental health needs. Assembly amendments do it instead.

Adding to the pile: Both the #ANCgov scandals today show a lack of understanding AND will to address our housing problems. We "solve" homelessness with housing options. We grow and renew our community with more housing. It benefits everyone. 1/4
To callously leave hundreds of houseless people with no amenities, while they are sleeping, and assume a smooth transition of an abrupt change in facility operator is possible, is wrong. It fails to perform a basic duty of government in a public facility. 2/4
To appoint a Chief Housing Officer with no actual experience in any aspect of the field of housing, at the same time calling for economic revitalization and "cranes in the sky," shows no real commitment to that goal, or even the concept of why housing is good for business. 3/4
