While the cancellation of the series is extremely disappointing & a popular outburst is natural, we need to stay focussed on what is good for 🇵🇰 & it’s 🏏 . And right now that is to work on ensuring that the English tour is (alongwith other future tours) not cancelled as well 1/n
We also need to get a grip on unnecessarily criticising NZ. This has no upside for us but rather makes future visits more difficult. The article attached below brings the different variables related to issue together well. 2/n. www-thenews-com-pk.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.thenew…
Institutionalised Governments (mostly) don’t take erratic decisions. The article below gives some indication of the approach taken by them. I know in the heat of the moment, all of us feel ‘short changed’ by them. 3/n nzherald.co.nz/sport/cricket-…
But if you were the NZ PM - based on the above - what would you have done - believe in your process and protect the people you are responsible for, or take a chance on another country’s word? If I put myself in her shoes, I know I would have relied on my Govt. 4/n
Pakistan also did all the right things, and the PM taking direct initiative was spot - regardless of the results. We should feel disappointed but not short-changed. After all it was NZ who decided to visit after 18 years. We DO want them to come back in future. 5/n
So at the expense of being unpopular right now, let me say this to @BLACKCAPS - we are disappointed (and we are sure you too) that you couldn’t continue. We would work with you and @ICC to find what actually happened, find a solution to it and welcome you back soon IA. 6/n
We now need to prioritise:
1-work with ECB to ensure that their visit stays on course
2-DO NOT react in a way that creates self-inflicted hurdles for future visits
3-ask for an independent report on the issue at the ICC level in due course to avoid such occurrences in future 7/n
Keeping a cool head, staying focussed on the bigger picture, and staying engaged with our global partners is the only option! 8/8 #StayUnited#UnitedWeWin 🇵🇰 zbd

So how should we deal with this? Premeditated or not, the recent withdrawals have created a deep sense of frustration. Apart from emotional outbursts, how do we attain some ‘leverage’? We surely can, but we need to play to ‘our interest’ first 1/n
We are undoubtedly one of the most hospitable hosts & always step up to help others. But we need to realise that being nice to everyone without reciprocity doesn’t work

I think there are three ways in which we can have explicit/implicit leverage to ‘convince’ foreign teams not to abandon tours in: 1) Economic leverage, 2) Geopolitical leverage, 2) Domestic Cricket Leverage 3/n
Changes in #geopolitics continue to accelerate at a breakneck speed. Post the announcement of the nuclear deal, fractures in EU/NATO are becoming more apparent. At the same time the #Quad’s focus continues to intensify on China. 1/n google.com.hk/amp/s/amp.abc.…
AUKUS (the nuclear deal) also shows further cracks in NATO as the Biden Govt gives up hope on France and Germany joining the Quad. 2/n
