HKFP_Live: Chief Exec. Carrie Lam is meeting the press. facebook.com/hongkongfp/vid… Image
Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Tuesday the Election Committee polls on Sunday fulfilled the goal of the sweeping overhaul - to ensure only patriots administer Hong Kong. She said she could not say why democrats did not take part.
The chief executive will travel to mainland China to Szechuan on an official tour, and return on September 28. Her trip will include attending the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games of China on September 27.
Lam also announced that the government will extend three loan schemes for another six months: the SME Financing Guarantee Scheme, the Principal Payment Holiday Scheme, and the 100% Personal Loan Guarantee Scheme.
Lam agreed there were problems on voting day for the Election Committee polls, including the varying number of counters opened at different polling stations which led to a long queuing time for voters to cast ballots.
The ballot counting process - which took around 14 hours to complete - also had "serious problems," Lam said.

She defended the small-circle polls as a "form of democratic election," but added that "One Country" comes first and "non-patriots" are not welcome in power.
