Thread on the 1965 SSG drop that has subsequently become a quite the meme

TL;DR:
SSG commandos were dropped into Punjab & attempted to capture airfields. Was a hilarious failure with groups of civilians, NCC cadets & support staff capturing & destroying most of the "elite" units Image
Contrary to the present, the Pakistani Army in the recent past had quite a few competent officers. Two of them (possibly) the best in the Army would play a role in the creation of the SSG.
One of them was the "father" of the SSG; Maj Gen AO Mitha, who instrumental in creating a special force that had 'teeth'. Image

but the disadvantages of this position must naturally not be of a transitory nature, at least in appearance, otherwise the enemy, instead of yielding, will hold out, in the prospect of a change for the better.
Every change in this position which is produced by a continuation of the War should therefore be a change for the worse. The worst condition in which a belligerent can be placed is that of being completely disarmed.
