I am perplexed how smart, compassionate left progressives rationalize and characterize the constant smears, lies and negative campaigning Singh does against LPC and specifically PMJT as “kind leadership”. Kindness is lying constantly?

What!? It’s kind to lie & manipulate truth?!
Every day during the campaign we heard Singh denigrate LPC for some cherry picked half truth or blatant lie. Bragging about “fighting” for you. Misrepresenting the significance of his role as the balance of power.
Taking credit for every action LPC took and blaming LPC for every setback. Promising impossible to deliver outcomes that he will never be held accountable for to deliver. Because NDP is in 4th place & has little ability to influence committees where real policy work is done.
And I will never forget how much this election cost. Between Singh & O’Toole I must have heard it mentioned it 600 million times and used as a cudgel to distract from the low detail platforms and empty promises that were never required to deliver.
Do people actually believe that selective kindness to NDP team members & post truth gaslighting for everyone else is okay? Or do they say this to convince the NDP rubes and gullible supporters who don’t understand that to be considered kind you need to respect ALL people equally?
Not just the ones who think like you.

I can understand celebrating an NDP win. I’m happy Diotte was turfed. I’m pleased Edmonton delivered progressive NDP and Liberal MPs to represent Alberta.
But this woman seems pleased that the campaign strategy of using disinformation and misleading propaganda worked so well in Griesbach that it can be replicated in Manning and Edmonton Centre, where a Liberal won.

Is the objective progressive policy or NDP power?
Does this NDP organizer actually believe that NDP policy (being very similar in objectives to LPC) is superior?

Climate action, childcare, end covid, affordability, reconciliation, just transition.

The similarities in objectives is glaring.
While the meta narrative is not explicitly stated, this NDP organizer is insinuating that LPC ridings and CPC ridings completely ignore NDP residents.

I know LPC MPs don’t ignore any residents who request federal assistance. Can’t speak to CPC MPs.
But an MP is responsible to represent every member of their riding. Not just the people who voted for them.

Which is a troublesome lie that NDP uses to justify a call for PR over FPTP. Every vote is counted. Every vote matters. Not just the ones that determined the winner.
This argument reeks of false logic that Albertan progressives can’t be represented by anything but an NDP MP. Way to promote tribalism over policy!

So the Liberal and Conservative voters shouldn’t expect representation in this Griesbach riding then? Only the NDP residents?
That’s an adulteration of Canadian democracy and a misrepresentation of how Westminster Parliamentary political systems are supposed to function. I voted Liberal, but the CPC candidate won. By a landslide. But a smaller landslide than in previous elections.
Does that mean my vote didn’t count? No it means my vote didn’t select the MP in my riding. My ballot was counted. But there weren’t enough people in my rural/urban split riding who vote progressive to select a progressive candidate. But more progressives voted this election.
What I’d like to know is do NDP organizers believe their negative campaign methods and strategies, their half truth rationales and their manipulated reality accusations justify the lack of effort made by NDP to develop and plan policies?
There are some very good ideas within the NDP. But you’d never know it, because NDP don’t rely on their policies or plans to win elections. They rely on populist pandering and demagogic rhetoric to win.

They rely on trickery and emotional appeals. Not well thought out plans.
The NDP don’t sell their skills and knowledge as features to voters. Or their understanding of the issues. They don’t bother to detail how they would achieve their objectives. They sell voters on distrust of LPC because the issues we face are difficult to address.
They sell miracles and instant gratification. Promising immediate relief from poverty, racism, misogyny and homophobia. Money in your pocket and laws that change attitudes over night. They sell utopia. But utopia is just a fantasy. It isn’t reality.
NDP bypasses the necessary hard work and effort required to craft, table, debate and shape bills in committee that meet the needs of a maximum number of people and make accommodations for special interests. They gloss over the approval required from multi partisan committees.
Where every major political party is represented and has the ability to contribute to every bill’s final draft, regardless of whether we have a minority or majority government.

But a minority government is a weak legislative government.
NDP may sell the idea that they won the balance of power in parliament, but they conceal the fact CPC has the balance of power in committees and obstructs progressive legislation. Which NDP frequently helps them do. Then blames LPC for being ineffective.
I hope this newly elected NDP MP is full of eagerness and youthful passion and idealism. I hope they bring a progressive policy agenda to Ottawa and they advocate for every resident in their riding.

Alberta does deserve better.
But I also hope the new NDP MP represents every resident in their riding. Works to build bridges and not burn them. Brings innovative & fresh well thought out ideas & suggestions to the NDP caucus & to QP. I hope he refrains from using populist smears and lies for political gain.
Alberta does deserve better than demagogic populism. We’ve already had enough of that from Diotte. Changing the face and the brand is irrelevant. Alberta’s needs are not met by dirty tricks and the propagation of fake scandals to win the next election.

We need serious MPs.
We need progressive ideas, policy and legislation. Both NDP and LPC bring those strengths to Ottawa. Let’s hope they can combine efforts and make some gains on required changes that improves all lives, not just NDP voters lives.
My unsolicited advice…

Please stop the populist rhetoric. Represent every resident in your riding and this province’s extensive needs. The task before you is huge. We require democratic cooperation and compromise from all parties to move forward and solve huge problems.
All Albertans are relying on you to represent our region and help find solutions to our UCP created problems.

Congratulations on your win. Albertans of all parties are collectively putting our trust and faith in you to help foster real change and implement real solutions.
Good luck and well wishes for success.

Within hours AB hospitals will be triaging patients.

Our healthcare system is in imminent collapse.

As I write this, a panel of conservative advisors are lamenting the CPC election loss on CBC. They’re discussing the strategies that were used by CPC to win that didn’t work.
O’Toole’s refusal to throw Kenney under the bus is being casually discussed. Consensus is he made a mistake standing by Kenney.

Legault’s interference in Quebec by recommending CPC is lauded as an effective strategy. But sticking by Kenney reduced its impact on ROC.
Niigan Sinclair is recommending O’Toole remain leader and CPC continue to offer moderate centrist leadership to win the 905. He advises the party to move to the centre for messaging. Without mentioning ideology of the party candidates.

Just tell people what they want to hear.

It bothers me that these young people were exposed to disinformation and unfortunately believe false information. Some may pay with their lives. Others may have symptoms for the rest of their life.
But what bothers me more are the number of people who have dehumanized these youth and wish them harm or consider their admission to hospital just desserts for their stupidity.

That really bothers me.
I witness people who have abandoned all compassion and all empathy and cheer for the illness of these foolish and gullible people who tried to protect themselves the way they’ve been told is an appropriate method to develop natural immunity.

I’ve avoided this information because it is personal and deeply impactful on my psyche. But it illustrates our current predicament quite clearly.

And I’ve had lots of therapy.
My mother developed full blown bipolar disorder at around age 35. It went untreated until I dragged her (literally) into the University Hospital Psychiatric walk in clinic to have her diagnosed when she was 50.
Fifteen years of medically untreated mental illness and several years of instability before that. At first I thought she was just an alcoholic. She drank herself to oblivion frequently. Her symptoms worsened over the years. Delusional when manic. Almost catatonic when depressed.

@PaulDoroshenko It gets worse Paul the deeper you look.

Alberta is mere days away from triaging children. Allowing kids to die because O’Toole campaigned at Stampede BEFORE the election was called. And it’s not just CPC. There are multitudes of complicit actors. It is disgusting!
@PaulDoroshenko In case people are having trouble putting the dots together because they are so disturbing…

Kenney delayed asking for federal assistance until after the election which not only filled ICU to 170% capacity, but is soon to impact PICU capacity, requiring triage of children.
@PaulDoroshenko The gaslighting, disinformation, smears, fake scandals and lies offered by CPC, NDP, GPC and an anti statist faction of vocal FN which many believe speak for all indigenous people (they don’t) have contributed to this outcome.

It’s repulsive!

The media is ignoring it.

I want every CPC, NDP and GPC voter to read this tweet.

READ THIS TWEET IF YOU VOTED TO BRING DOWN THE LIBERALS!

Yes, I’m screaming at you!

This is the state of affairs in Alberta. Sixty one physicians begged Kenney to request assistance from LPC on Sept 13/21.
He didn’t send the letter requesting help until today. September 21, 2021.

So he wouldn’t impact O’Toole’s electoral chances any more than he already had by ordering extremely inadequate covid restrictions.

Twenty nine people died today.

29.
You voted for this.

You enabled O’Toole to continue campaigning even today.

Complaining about the cost of the $600M election during a pandemic.

Do you think the 29 people who died in the last 24 hours because Kenney stalled asking for help were not worth $600M?

Smart woman, Melanee Thomas. Incomplete analysis of Kenney, UCP & covid though.

No disrespect Ms Thomas, but the answer to what happened has already been answered. What Albertans are going to do about it is the question that needs to be asked.
Jason Kenney has a long history in politics. He attempted to gain a theology degree, but that didn’t work out. His youthful political activism included soliciting the Pope to sanction his university’s priests for permitting women to speak freely on campus about abortion rights.
He was also central in blocking gay men’s partners from visiting them in San Francisco hospitals during the beginning of the AIDS pandemic in the 1980’s.

After leaving college, he became the contact for Canadian Taxpayers Assoc. Then moved onto join the Reform Party in 1987.
