Deep in thought, Izuku paced back and forth nervously in the waiting room. He pulled at his bottom lip like he always did when he was anxious. Where the hell was Kacchan? Katsuki had promised he'd be there, and now he was twenty minutes late.
Did he change his mind? This was a big commitment. Probably the biggest decision they'd made since deciding to move in together.
Not two seconds later, Katsuki came running through the door out of breath. He hung his head, hands on his hips trying to catch his breath. "/Fuck/ ... Did you ... did you get him?!"
"What?! No Kacchan, I've been waiting for you! It's only official if we both sign the papers."
"Oh come on! It would have been fine! I just want to get him home already, let's go!" Katsuki said, walking over to the check-in window.
They both said they were finally ready to see /him/.
A volunteer came by to grab them, and walked them through the building until they were brought into another room to wait.
"What took you so long anyway?" Izuku whispered.
"Listen, I had nothing but fuckin' trouble trying to get here. First, Shitty Hair wouldn't stop talking my ear off, he's just as excited about this as we are. An old lady needed help crossing the street,-
and what kind of a bullshit hero would I be if I say no?!" Izuku snorted a laugh at that. "AND I'll have you know I pulled a cat out of a tree on the way here too. So, I think I'm highly quali-"
Katsuki's explanation was cut off by another volunteer entering the room, and Izuku beamed; Held in their arms was the boy they were so eager to see.
A tiny calico kitten. His colors were prominently black and white, with spots of orange through out.
His most defining feature was the black hair around his eyes, making it seem like he was wearing a mask. As soon as Izuku saw him on the rescue website, he was in love.
The volunteer set him in Katsuki's arms first, and the kitten immediately tried climbing up Katsuki's shirt,
nipping at his face and his ears. But after a few minutes, he found a comfortable spot against Katsuki's neck, drawn to his warmth, and snuggled into him. Izuku immediately got teary eyed, and Katsuki tried and failed to suppress the smile that was quickly growing on his face.
The volunteer asked them questions, making sure they were good candidates for adoption. Izuku had already bought a carrier, and plenty of toys, a litter box, and a scratching post were all waiting for him at home.
The couple passed with flying colors, and they signed the paperwork shortly after, excited to bring their little baby home.
"So, what are we gonna name him?" Katsuki asked.
Izuku thought about it for a second. "Well, I was thinking something hero related, obviously. All Might didn't wear a mask, so what about ... Bruce? Like Batman, or Robin? There's so many to chose from!"
Katsuki held the kitten up in front of him, studying the sweet ball of fluff. "I don't know ... he kinda looks like a Wade Wilson to me."
"Kacchan!" Izuku smacked him playfully. "You want to name him after Deadpool?"
Katsuki shrugged, and smiled at Izuku. "Well, we could always name him Dynamite."
The kitten meowed at them in response. They both tilted their heads at him questioningly.
Katsuki repeated the name, and he meowed again. "Ha! He likes it! Dynamite it is then!"
Izuku shook his head and laughed. He planted a light kiss on Katsuki's cheek, and they hurried to get home, as a happy little family.

How did Izuku get here? What in his life had he done to deserve this?
He managed to get off work early to surprise his girlfriend of two years.
It was their anniversary, of all days. There wasn't anything spectacular planned; they were just broke college students after all. But Izuku bought her flowers, he planned to surprise her, prepare a nice dinner for them and make her favorite dessert, maybe cuddle on the couch.
And if they were up to it, maybe they'd have sex, but that wasn't necessary.
Izuku has a spare key to her dorm room, and there had never been any reason to knock before, so he just let himself in.
That’s the last thing Katsuki remembers. The feelings of his insides being ripped apart, the metallic taste in his mouth, and darkness.
It was possible that the adrenaline dulled the pain a little at first, but eventually it hit him like a freight train. It was an odd feeling all together, being on death’s front door. He had done his own research into near death experiences,
not that he ever planned on dying in the line of duty, but it didn’t hurt to be prepared. There was no blinding light, no silver lining. He was definitely not numb, there was no euphoric, overwhelming sense of calm. Just pain.
