NSW recorded 1,007 new locally acquired cases of #COVID19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

No new cases were acquired overseas, and 12 previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation. The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 57,794.

Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of eleven people with COVID-19 - ten men and one woman.

One person was in their 40s, one person was in their 50s, two people were in their 60s, three people were in their 70s, three people were in their 80s and one person was in their 90s.

Two people were from south eastern Sydney, five were from south western Sydney, two were from Sydney, one was from the Blue Mountains, and one was from western Sydney.

One of these cases was a man in his 70s from the Blue Mountains who acquired his infection at the Uniting Springwood Residential Aged Care Facility where he was a resident. He was not vaccinated.

Nine people were not vaccinated, and two people had received one dose. At least eight had underlying medical conditions.

Three people, one man in his 40s, one man in his 50s, and one woman in her 80s died at home. Their infections were diagnosed after their deaths.

NSW Health extends its sincere condolences to their loved ones.

There have been 288 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 344 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 52,143 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

There are currently 1,187 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 229 people in intensive care, 118 of whom require ventilation.

There were 108,105 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 131,668.

NSW Health administered 36,426 COVID-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, including 6,333 at the vaccination centre at Sydney Olympic Park.

Across NSW, 84.7 per cent of the over-16 population has received a first dose COVID-19 vaccine, and 57.8 per cent are fully vaccinated to 11.59pm on Thursday 23 September 2021.

The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 9,489,300 with 3,412,933 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 6,076,367 administered by the GP network and other providers to 11.59pm on Thursday 23 September 2021.

Of the 1,007 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 308 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 214 are from Western Sydney LHD, 103 are from Sydney LHD, 82 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 70 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, -

- 66 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 56 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 31 are from Hunter New England LHD, 31 are from Central Coast LHD, 20 are from Western NSW LHD, six are from Far West LHD, four are from southern NSW LHD, three are from Murrumbidgee LHD, -

- one is from Mid North Coast LHD, three are in correctional settings and nine cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD.

NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage samples from Tamworth in northeast NSW, Dareton and Balranald in Far Western NSW, Oberon in the Central West, Dungog in the Hunter, and Eden on the South Coast.

There are have been no recent cases identified in these catchment areas. Everyone in these areas is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

If you are directed to get tested for COVID 19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.

It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact of a person with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately.

When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case.
