🕠We're kicking off our event on 'What does the Policing Bill mean for Gypsy and Traveller communities?' in 5 minutes, chaired by @marykfoy as part of @TWT_NOW.

💥We'll hear from @mwillersqc, @bowers_jake, @chelsmcdonagh, Mattey Mitchell and @HulmesAllison.
Chairing the event, @marykfoy opens with a reminder of the serious opposition across civil society to the Government's #PolicingBill.
Our trustee @mwillersqc describes the proposals to fine, imprison or seize the homes of Gypsies and Travellers as ‘atrocious’.

🚨WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPREME COURT🚨

⚖️Along with @LondonGypsyTrav and Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group, we've been granted permission to challenge the use of anti-Traveller 'wide injunctions' at the Supreme Court.

MORE INFO: gypsy-traveller.org/news/wide-inju… (1/6) FFT logo in white, top left...
🏦In the original High Court case back in January, all existing injunctions were brought together for an in-depth scrutiny by Mr Justice Nicklin, with many of the Orders being discharged in the process.

More: gypsy-traveller.org/law/councils-i… (2/6)
🧑‍⚖️Justice Nicklin's ruling declared that any Romany or Traveller people who arrived on the land at a later date would not be covered by the injunction.

🚫However, the Court of Appeal overturned this decision. (3/6)

On 20th Feb 1856, over a quarter of a million Roma people were freed from centuries of enslavement under Romanian principalities.

Today, we remember all those Roma people subject to torture, abuse and forced labour - and recognise the legacy of maltreatment and inequality. (1/5)
You can read more about the history of slavery for Roma people in Romania in the following links:

"On 20 February, we mark the abolition of Roma slavery on the territories of today’s Romania. Much has changed across continents but the enslavement of people in both Romania and the US has converted into new forms of exploitation and control." (3/5)

"Many [sites] adjoin recycling plants or are surrounded by embankments of earth. “They try to hide Gypsies away from public view,” Green says."

Many thanks to @RKWinvisibleman for this write-up on the state of sites and the #PolicingBill. (1/6)
Previous research by @KatharineQ showed the extent of inadequate site placement, with 79% located within 500 metres of one or more of an A road, motorway, railway line, refuse/recycling, sewage or an industrial estate, canal or river.

It's National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

The race hate experienced by Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people cannot continue and must be dealt with wherever it appears, online and in real life.

There's #NoPlaceForHate and every space must be safe, for everyone. #NationalHCAW (1/6) An image with a red background and a picture of a man with a

No one, at any age, should have to say these words.

No one should have to carry the burden for things they have not done.

Everyone should feel safe, validated and respected.

Everyone deserves to live free from hate.

Social Media companies have to do more. Now. (3/6) Green background image, with FFT logo on top right hand side

🔴Treated as 2nd-class citizens;
🔴Chased from pillar-to-post despite having nowhere to stop, thanks to 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act;
🔴Locked into a cycle of trespass, evictions, race hate and discrimination.
