For the second consecutive day, FUTVE English will be reporting live from El Olímpico. Yesterday, hosts UCV FC beat Atletico Venezuela 4-0. Today, a repeat result would be crushing for Metropolitanos, who still harbour hopes of 2º.
There is zero let up from Head Coach Noel Sanvicente who sends out his strongest possible XI. Their place in the ‘Hexagonal A’ is secure but it’s evident they have no plans on stalling their momentum by choice. That front three should be feared. #futve
Metropolitanos, on the other hand, are without Abraham Bahachille. He isn’t even on the bench. Considering he was listed in the national team’s preliminary squad yesterday, we’re not sure why. Robinson Flores is also entirely absent. In-form Irwin Anton remains up front. #futve
7’: The game kicked off early here at the Estadio Olímpico de la UCV. Richard Celis was right on time, though. Fouled twice the opening two minutes thanks to his impressively quick feet and agility. 0-0. #futve
13’: Despite the full strength nature of the Caracas lineup, they’re perhaps lacking a little intensity. Metro, with considerable and notable absences could be there for the taking if Caracas choose to up the ante. 0-0. #futve
18’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Irwin Anton, Metropolitanos’ leading goalscorer in club history, taps in from close range after Hernández fumbles. Maybe that will wake up the group leaders. This is something for Metro to hold on to now. It’s a long time to do so. 0-1. #futve
21’: The referee is being very soft, along with his assistants here, blowing up for a Osei-Bonsu shove on Nestor Cova. Has he not, the Ghanaian was in the box with multiple options. 0-1. #futve
24’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Edson Castillo thumps home in improvised fashion to equalise! It cannons in off the crossbar after the midfielder scrambled to his feet following a penalty shout to connect with the Celis-provided cross. We are level again. 1-1. #futve
30’: Richard Celis releases Sandro Notaroberto on the overlap and the Venezolano-Italiano crosses into the danger zone just out of Giancarlo Schiavone’s reach. He comes for it anyway and ends up in a three-clash and the worst off. No goal is scored, though. 1-1. #futve
40’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Jefre Vargas retake the lead for the Metropolitanos, and we hate to single out goalkeepers for fault, but he’s been very poor for both goals. Vargas was left with a near-open goal after Hernández fell under no real pressure and dropped the ball. 1-2.
HT: Caracas 1-2 Metropolitanos|
Well, this is exactly what José María Morr would want. They’re not leading undeservedly – that would be unfair to say – but they’ve certainly been fortunate with both opportunities presented to them. Anton and Vargas had to be there and they were.
60’: Sanvicente is shuffling his pack early: Jorge Echeverría (AM) is off for Miguel Celis (ST). 4-4-2/4-2-2-2. Metropolitanos are being made to work for their lead. 1-2. #futve
72’: Richard Celis is left unmarked on the far side of the box from a corner with enough time to tee himself up for a spectacular volleyed effort towards the top corner. It doesn’t drop in time, though. Metro escape. 1-2. #futve
75’: Christian Larotonda is on to secure the Metro midfield. He’s still returning to full fitness but still has enough talent to warrant his call to arms. 1-2. #futve
We interviewed Larotonda on Tuesday. Listen to it on our podcast below:
78’: Richard Celis fires over again. It feels like it’s coming, it’s just a case of whether one of the men in red can find the target. Caracas have only lost to one team this season: Lala. 1-2. #futve
80’: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Irwin Anton gets his second of the night to surely give Metro all three points! Caracas are staring at just their third defeat in 21 games. Metro will be just the second club to beat them with Lala responsible for the other two losses. 1-3. #futve
FT: Caracas FC 1-3 Metropolitanos|
It is a well fought and ultimately deserved win. Three mistakes capitalised on with ruthless efficiency. Caracas were not at the races today. Metro’s hopes of Hexagonal A qualification remain, although faint. #futve

Lara started the month closer to relegation than Libertadores qualification. Two clean sheets and an unbeaten September has changed that entirely. Throughout, Curiel was superb, particularly against Carabobo and Aragua. #futve 2/13
Unbeaten in September (WDWD) with a goal and clean sheet to his name, the right back has been a key figure in the Barinas’ club ultra attacking and vertical football. He impressed strongly against Estudiantes and Zamora. #futve 3/13
It’s a battle for Barinas as Hermanos host Zamora with a 4th place finish and #Sudamericana football on the line.
A win or draw keeps Hermanos in 4th, but Zamora could leap into Hexagonal B contention with a win. #FutVe
7': No early goals as a greatly important match up takes place in Barinas tonight. A result for the home side could prove a huge moment for the newly promoted club. 0-0. #FutVe
15': GOOOOOOOOOOL! ⚽️
Richard Figueroa sneaks around the Hermanos' backline and taps in the opener to give Zamora the lead!
Zamora take 4th place, for now, and Hermanos are left with a lot on the line. 1-0. #FutVe
|Deportivo La Guaira vs. Yaracuyanos|
- Match Thread
It’s top versus bottom in the Grupo Central, the reigning champions against a team who now face relegation if they cannot turn the tide. They’re 4 points adrift with a game in hand. Kick off is in 5. #futve
11': It's is goalless at El Olimpico so far. La Guaira have the Argentine Mario Santilli in goal with recently called up Carlos Olses on the bench. Fellow call ups Adrian Martinez and Francisco La Mantia partner each other at centre back. Yaracuyanos have their work cut out. 0-0.
12': Dany Cure demonstrates the ability that meant La Guaira were keen to bring him back to Venezuela after two and a bit years abroad (🇧🇴🇦🇷🇺🇾). He shuffles in the box to work himself a chance but cant keep his shot down. 0-0. #futve
In 2016 and 2017, Daniuska Rodríguez and then Deyna Castellanos finished 3º in The FIFA Puskas Award. 🏆
But did you know that the Hungarian striker the prize is named after, Ferenc Puskas, played two games in Venezuela in 1957 despite a FIFA ban? 🇻🇪
(Thread ⬇️)
At the time, Puskas was playing for Honved 🇭🇺, a team he had won 5 league titles with, finishing top scorer 4 times. They were considered one of the best clubs in Europe and were touring countries such as England, Spain, and Italy when they received an invitation from Brazil.
It was to be a ten-match, six-week tour of Brazil, worth $10,000 per game, but with the recent defection in Switzerland of the entire Hungary U21 team, the Hungarian FA denied Honved permission to travel to Brazil.
|Zulia FC vs. Estudiantes de Mérida|
- Match Thread
There’s a total of 5 U20s in Zulia’s XI, including captain Junior Paredes. Meanwhile, Ayrton Páez returns to the visitors’ lineup after they struggled without a #10 against Hermanos Colmenarez.
Goals, HT, & FT tweets only. ⬇️
HT: Zulia 0-2 Estudiantes|
The men from Merida lead by two at the break thanks to a 3º strike from Ayrton Páez, which was then doubled by Danny Santoya. At 0-1, Zulia captain Junior Paredes had a penalty saved by Alejandro Araque. This puts them 6pts ahead of Portuguesa. #futve
With just over 20 minutes left, the score is 1-2. Yanowsky Reyes halved the deficit with Zulia’s first goal of the afternoon in the 59°. Estudiantes will be desperate to keep hold of the lead and tighten their grip on 2º and thus a place in the ‘Hexagonal A’.
The FUTVE English Team of the Month|🗓 July 2021 - Thread|
UCV and Deportivo La Guaira dominate our XI with Daniel Sasso’s superb effect on UCV securing him our Manager of the Month award. Results from 01/08 were included for consideration. #futve
UCV had kept just one clean sheet before July, now they’ve kept five. Forero has been fantastic between the sticks, denying Lala, Metro, Mineros, and Monagas. Only group leaders Caracas have breached his net. Captain fantastic. #futve
Kaki is the perfect blend of style and substance in the Caracas defence and marked his July with 1 goal, 1 clean sheet, and two performances considered by InStat as in the best 25 of the week. He’s the 3° highest rated CB in the league. #futve
