Chinese opinions of #MengWanzhou case only compound how poorly the average Chinese person knows the West, despite regular smug claims they’re much better informed than Westerners are about China. It’s clear that knowledge of their own system contaminates their understanding. 1/?
You can tell they don’t believe there is true separation of powers and the authority of gov is restrained, because that doesn’t exist in China. They believe the courts act at the behest of the Party, which again they don’t separate from the concepts of gov and state. 2/?
You can tell they don’t trust in rule of law and recognize it’s that which protected Meng from extradition, because they presume the legal system is as rigged in Canada as it is in China. There is low trust in Chinese justice and they transfer that distrust to other systems.
