The #COredistricting congressional commission is starting its first of two meetings today. Here’s the #COpolitics agenda:

Looks like #COredistricting congressional commission won’t vote today, is planning a ranked-choice vote at Tuesday’s 6 p.m. meeting. They’ll vote until they have eight votes for a plan. #COpolitics

There are 29 potential congressional plans that can be considered - earlier counted 30 on the list. #coredistricting #copolitics That means there could be discussion of all 29 proposals.

Commissioner Kelly, an R, is from Alamosa, but no longer supports a Southern District. He’s one of 3 of 4 GOP #COredistricting commissioners (at least) opposed, along with Schell, U from Durango. #COpolitics

Talking communities of interest right now and… it’s #COredistricting complicated, especially in congressional district that need large #COpolitics population.

Commissioner Wilkes: "We can't define communities of interest. Only communities of interest can define themselves. And it is not our job to say if they're valid or invalid."

Next map is Tafoya’s “Headwaters map” - it’s being introduced by Commissioner Diawara, U of El Paso County - he likes it best. It’s a southern district map.

Kelly says this as a southern district is a misnomer - especially with the inclusion of Eagle and Pitkin, though he appreciates the competitiveness. #COredistricting #COpolitics

Schell also opposes the Tafoya Headwaters map, says it’s unfair to rural ag folks: "It strikes me as a divide and conquer.” She also accuses @RuralCOUnited of attacking her (check their twitter account) #COredistricting #COpolitics

Several commissioners are saying they want to vote on this third #COredistricting staff map if it looks like they’d default to it. #COpolitics

They’re now talking about the preliminary #COredistricting plan, which is confusing to me, because it’s based on 2019 numbers. #COpolitics
