Nothing exceptionnal happens inside your comfort zone.

Here's how to level up your learning when pairing-up with a productivity buddy.

#GrowthBuddy
1/ If you're doing productivity check-ins for the first time, pairing-up with a friend or someone in your social circle makes sense.

It's usually easier to reach out to someone you know and get personal with him/her.

But beware of the comfort zone.
2/ I stayed 3 years with the same buddy.

Initially, it was nice to build a deep and strong relationship together.

And we learned a lot, while figuring out how to do productive check-ins.

But then I decided to change buddy every 3 months to get out of my comfort zone.
3/ My new buddies made me discover new tools, books, and trainings.

I had introverts and extroverts, which helped me better refine my understanding of these personality traits.

Also knowing that I am an introvert still figuring out its own personality.
4/ We experimented on different ideas on how to improve our check-ins.

We used different questions, different coaching styles

My buddies inspired me on how to:
-have more warmth in my voice
-be more concise
-say the hard truth tactfully when needed
5/ I had buddies from 4 different countries: France, Canada, the USA, Turkey.

Which helped me learn different world views.
6/ I had buddies with different occupations.

One was a master of networking on LinkedIn

Another one was a stand up comedian

Still another one was a sales rep.
7/ Of course, it can feel heartbreaking to stop doing weekly or daily check-ins with someone.

But it's not like saying goodbye.

You will have occasions to keep in touch in the future.

Just not as often as you used to.
8/ After a while, you will have built a whole new extended social circle around you.

Growth minded individual you can count on in difficult times.

And that you will continue to support unconditionally for many years to come!

Many people are looking for a "mean" accountability buddy.

Someone who will give them a hard time if they don't complete their goals.

While this feels intuitively efficient, I don't buy it.

Here's why...

A thread
1/ Some people can get extreme when it comes to following-up on their goals.

Like scheduling a shaming tweet early in the morning, just to make sure they wake up on time to cancel it.

Or betting money using apps like StikK.
2/ It's common to hear people longing for a "kick in the ass" to help them cure procrastination.

And I heard some influencers suggest that you can't develop a friendship with an accountability buddy.

Or else the person would be too nice with you.
