NSW recorded 863 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Three new cases were acquired overseas, and seven previously reported cases have been excluded following further investigation.
The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 61,231.
Sadly, NSW Health is today reporting the deaths of fifteen people with COVID-19 – eight men and seven women.
Two people were in their 40s, two were in their 50s, four people were in their 60s, three people were in their 70s, one in their 80s, and three people were in their 90s.
One person had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, five people had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and nine people were not vaccinated.
Five people were from south western Sydney, three people were from western Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s inner west,
one person was from south eastern Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s eastern suburbs, one person was from Newcastle, one person was from Lake Macquarie, one person was from Dubbo, and one person was from Bateman’s Bay.
A man in his 40s from western Sydney died at Nepean Hospital. He was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.
Two people from south western Sydney who died acquired their infections at Liverpool Hospital – a man in his 60s and a woman in her 90s.
Two people died at home. A man in his 40s from Lake Macquarie was not vaccinated and was receiving care in the community from Hunter New England Local Health District. He had underlying health conditions.
A woman in her 70s from Bateman’s Bay who died at home had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine but had only received the second dose shortly before her death.
She had underlying health conditions and was diagnosed with COVID-19 following her death.
NSW Health extends its sincere condolences to their loved ones.
There have been 331 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since 16 June 2021 and 387 in total since the start of the pandemic.
There have been 55,570 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.
There are currently 1,082 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 212 people in intensive care, 108 of whom require ventilation.
There were 120,281 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 132,279.
NSW Health administered 26,002 COVID-19 vaccines in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
Across NSW, 86.2 per cent of the over-16 population has received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 61.7 per cent are fully vaccinated to 11.59pm on Monday 27 September 2021.
The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 9,867,485 with 3,517,837 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 6,349,648 administered by the GP network and other providers to 11.59pm on Monday 27 September 2021.
Of the 863 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 227 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 187 are from Western Sydney LHD, 94 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 80 are from South East Sydney LHD, 68 are from Sydney LHD,
55 are from Hunter New England LHD, 38 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 34 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 24 are from Western NSW LHD, 23 are from Central Coast LHD, 18 are from Southern NSW LHD, five are from Far West LHD,
two are from Northern NSW LHD, three are in correctional settings, and five cases are yet to be assigned to an LHD.
NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program has detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in sewage samples from Dareton in the far west, South Grafton in the northern rivers region, Jindabyne in the south east and Moruya on the far south coast.
Everyone in these areas is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
From 11 Oct, two visitors per day aged 12 years and over will be permitted to visit an aged care facility if they are fully vaccinated.
NSW Health will continue to work with the aged care sector to develop COVID-safe plans to support children under 12 years of age to visit aged care facilities in due course.
If you are directed to get tested for COVID 19 or self-isolate at any time, you must follow the rules whether or not the venue or exposure setting is listed on the NSW Health website.
It remains vital that anyone who has any symptoms or is a close or casual contact of a person
with COVID-19, isolates and is tested immediately. When testing clinics are busy, please ensure you stay in line, identify yourself to staff and tell them that you have symptoms or are a contact of a case.

the relevant health advice if you have attended a venue of concern or travelled on a public transport route at the same time as a confirmed case of COVID-19. This list is being updated regularly as case investigations proceed.

CHANGES TO STAY-AT-HOME ORDERS FOR REGIONAL NSW LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS
Stay-at-home orders will be extended until 11 October for a number of local government areas (LGAs) in regional NSW due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health risk.
Stay-at-home orders will be extended for the following LGAs until 11 October: Bathurst Regional, Bourke, Central Coast, City of Cessnock, Dubbo Regional, Eurobodalla, Goulburn Mulwaree, Kiama, City of Lake Macquarie, City of Lithgow, City of Maitland, City of Newcastle,-
- Port Stephens, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional, City of Shellharbour, City of Shoalhaven, and Wingecarribee.
Stay-at-home orders for the Oberon Local Government Area (LGA) will be introduced from 6pm today for seven days due to an increased COVID-19 public health risk.
This stay-at-home order will also apply to anyone who has been in the Oberon LGA since 20 September.
Everyone in this LGA must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason, which includes shopping for food, medical care, getting vaccinated, compassionate needs, exercise and work or tertiary education if you can’t work or study at home.
