So many of these stories are similar to my experience at Oklahoma Bible Academy. I was discouraged from science and math classes. I was shamed about my body. I was told my depression was a sin /my fault for not having better faith.... #ExposeChristianSchools

My principal threw a VHS tape at the class. A history teacher threw a textbook at a girl that fell asleep. Our middle school Bible teacher regularly told us about his "porn addiction" that God saved him from, but was caught watching porn at school. #ExposeChristianSchools

Skirt length checks were done by having girls kneel in front of teachers (measure from ground to hem). Catholics weren't "true Christians" and my faith was questioned when I dated a catholic. #ExposeChristianSchools

Our history textbooks were racist, antisemitic, inaccurate. (E.g. "curse of Ham" myth, slavery was "not always bad", etc). Our science texts taught creationism and other religious beliefs and had bible verses throughout (def not science). #ExposeChristianSchools

It was rough, and I had/have religious trauma from the experience. I felt alone and hated. The bullying was next level. It wasn't a good education or a good environment.

In 8th grade I got in trouble bc my 9th grade boyfriend sat with me in the 8th grade section in chapel. He did not get in trouble. Apparently it was somehow distracting to all the boys in the school? We were literally just sitting near each other.

In 10th grade around January I decided I was leaving at the end of the year (lol should've just left then). A friend who also planned to transfer was cornered by a teacher and lectured on how immoral and horrible the public school was. I kept the transfer secret ..

Until literally day after grades came out. Went to get transcript. Guidance counselor held transcript hostage for 1h while saying how bad the public school was. The public school was so much better. A rumor started that I was pregnant & had been expelled. #ExposeChristianSchools

One boy got suspended for a bit bc he put "OBA is a bunch of f*ckers" on his Myspace. He was "hurting the school's witness" by posting that. Obviously these are the same people railing about "free speech" when they say bigoted things and/or misinformation.

We weren't allowed to lock our lockers bc we were all Christian and should trust each other. And you couldn't take your backpack into class. Bullies would rummage in your locker. Stuff was stolen. But we were allowed to lock our gym lockers???

Just remembered one. On Wednesdays was "chapel dress" (girls req'd to wear skirts or dresses). One teacher was NOTORIOUS for always "dropping" his pen when girls were walking by his desk (it was in the middle of the classroom, most of us walked by it).

It was so flagrant that even the BOYS in our school noticed. He called me a "dumb blonde" routinely in class. He had a lot of other names for other students. OBA is where I learned how to pick things off the floor by bending knees, keeping torso vertical. #ExposeChristianSchools
