Okay, you are frustrated, can't seem to get ahead, and are unsure what you are doing wrong.
Don't worry; you are not alone; if productivity were easy, there wouldn't be millions of blogs, books, and experts talking about it all the time.
But there are solutions...
As my good friend, Steven Pressfield says:
“Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance.”
You have subconsciously allowed resistance into your life, and we need to kick it out by not falling for these 7 traps.
1) I need to work 12 hr days.
WRONG
Productivity is about the results you deliver, not the time spent working.
All your tasks should be broken down into milestones and have deadlines.
Measuring your results will improve your work output very QUICKLY.
2) I need to check my phone.
WRONG
Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram notifications are not important.
Avoid checking your phone, emails, and social media before you do focused work, giving yourself at least a 15-minute break before getting started.
Why?
Because it works.
3) I am good at multitasking.
WRONG
You are not; multitasking DOES NOT EXIST.
When you switch tasks, it takes up to 15 minutes or more to get back into the flow.
90% of the world spends all day never getting into the flow
You need to become part of the 10% QUICKLY.
4) I work better when tired.
WRONG
You might feel like you are in a movie montage scene, getting your big project done.
But you're just tripping out because you are tried.
Burnout is real, and when you feel your productivity drop, you should stop.
Take a break and recharge.
5) I do urgent tasks first.
WRONG
Your tasks are only urgent because you never prioritize them, and this could be more than just a personal issue; it could be an organizational one as well.
Important tasks that drive your results always need to be done first.
6) I don't have time.
WRONG
You do have time.
You just have a calendar full of pointless or low-importance tasks and meetings.
If you want to be productive, you have to become a Time Master.
Set essential tasks in your calendar and build your schedule around them.
7) I love saying YES
WRONG
You love feeling important.
You either can't say No or subconsciously want to be overwhelmed because of the unresolved need to feel busy and important.
STOP IT.
Set boundaries and learn how to say NO so you can say YES to what really matters.
In review, if you think any of the following 7 are true:
1-I need to work 12 hr days
2-I need to check my phone
3-I am good at multitasking
4-I work better when tired
5-I do urgent tasks first
6-I don't have time
7-I love saying YES
You are WRONG.
Stop believing in these lies.
I work with clients to improve their productivity, and we focus on these 5 areas:
1-Clarify Your Direction
2-Strategize Your Actions
3-Upgrade Your Skills
4-Optimize Your Environment
5-Master Your Psychology
Maslow's hierarchy of needs applied to your modern working life.
A thread about self-actualization...
"Musicians must make music; artists must paint; poets must write if they are to be ultimately at peace with themselves. What human beings can be, they must be. They must be true to their own nature. This need we may call self-actualization."
- Abraham Maslow
There are 5 levels to Maslow's hierarchy of needs:
How to avoid the dark side of success and win for the right reasons.
///thread\\\
Ask yourself:
Do you feel like you are constantly chasing the dopamine hit of a win?
Do you feel like you do things because of other's expectations?
Do you do things just to beat people?
If you answered yes to any of those, you could be in the Success Trap
Let’s take a look...
Behind every victory is the desire for the next one, and that can be a good thing if you have good goals linked to a purpose.
But maybe for you, every success just makes you want more.
In reality, there is no peak to success; the climb towards the next one can become addictive.
