For whatever reason, there are pundits out there who say we should compromise even more and cut back on addressing the long-neglected problems facing working families as well as climate change.

REALLY?

Please tell me where we should cut.
Should we end the $300 direct payments to working class parents which have cut childhood poverty in our country by half?
Should we continue to ignore the dysfunctionality of our child care system which forces millions of working families to spend 20-30% of their limited incomes on childcare and keeps over a million women out of the workforce?
Should we deny low and moderate income young people the opportunity to get the higher education and job skills they need by making community colleges tuition-free?
Should we continue allowing the pharmaceutical industry to charge us, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs?
Should we continue a situation where many millions of seniors are unable to afford to go to a dentist to get treatment for their rotting teeth, or buy the hearing aids and eye glasses they need — or should we expand Medicare to cover those basic health care needs?
Should we continue being the only major country on earth not to guarantee paid family and medical leave?
Should we, as an aging society, force older and disabled Americans into expensive nursing home care or should we expand home health care and allow them the opportunity to stay in their own homes?
Should we continue to have 600,000 Americans remain homeless, or should we finally begin building the millions of units of low income and affordable housing that we need?
When the planet gets hotter, with unprecedented forest fires, drought, floods, extreme weather, and acidification of the oceans, when scientists tell us that we only have a few years to avoid irreparable harm to our planet, should we really continue to ignore this global crisis?
Now is the time, finally, for Congress to stand up for working families and have the courage to take on the big money interests and wealthy campaign contributors who have so much power over the economic and political life of our country.

Is it acceptable to you that while 2 people own more wealth than the bottom 40% in this country, half our people live paycheck to paycheck, seniors are unable to hear or to see the world around them, and new moms are guaranteed ZERO paid days to spend with their baby?
To me, that level of inequality is morally unconscionable.

Now is the time for legislation that says yes, in the richest country on the face of the planet, seniors must be able to age with dignity — we must expand Medicare to cover hearing aids, dental care, and eyeglasses.
Now is the time for legislation which says yes, it is absurd that the United States is the only major country not to guarantee workers some form of paid family and medical leave — we must end that absurdity and guarantee paid leave to workers.

In just two weeks, New Yorkers have the chance to elect candidates who understand that working people are hurting and the time is now for New York City’s government to represent ordinary people and not just the 1%.
For New York City Public Advocate, I'm proud to endorse @JumaaneWilliams who is a tireless fighter for working people.
For New York City Comptroller, I'm endorsing @bradlander because he will stand up to special interests and demand the change working people need.

I am on my way to Kentucky to give a major address at 2:30 p.m. ET about the future of our country and the choices we have to make. The vision of Sen. Mitch McConnell and the Republican Establishment versus that of the Progressive movement could not be clearer.
We want a government that represents the needs of struggling working families. McConnell wants a government that does the bidding of the wealthy and large corporations.
We want all Americans to have health care as a human right. McConnell led the effort to throw up to 32 million Americans off the health care they had.

Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, is the wealthiest person in the world and the company has tens of thousands of workers in fulfillment centers all across the country who are working at a breakneck pace to fill and ship orders.
In 2020, Amazon made $14 billion in profits during the COVID pandemic, but decided to stop paying hazard pay to workers. During that same time, Jeff Bezos saw his wealth grow by around $70 billion.
One report found that Jeff Bezos's net worth had grown so much from March to September 2020 that he could have given every single Amazon employee a bonus of $105,000 and he'd still be as wealthy as he was before the pandemic. Outrageous.

Given the enormous economic desperation facing working families in this country today, I can't support this proposal unless it is significantly improved.

Despite strong Democratic opposition, this proposal provides 100% legal immunity to corporations whose irresponsibility led to the deaths of hundreds of workers. It would continue to provide a get-out-of-jail free card to companies that put the lives of their workers at risk.
During the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, when 1 out of 4 workers are unemployed or make less than $20,000, every working class American needs at least $1,200 to pay the rent and feed their families. Manchin-Romney provides nothing for them.

We must do everything we can to ensure @JoeBiden wins by the largest possible margin. We also must consider what happens if Trump loses but refuses to abide by the results and does everything he can to hold onto power.
First, with the pandemic and a massive increase in mail-in voting, state legislatures must take action to allow votes to be counted before Election Day. We must avoid a situation where battleground states are counting millions of votes for days and weeks after Election Day.
Second, the news media needs to prepare the American people to understand there is no longer a single Election Day and that we may not know the results on November 3. Absent a national conversation about that reality, conspiracy theories and disinformation will likely thrive.
