Our faith systems have taught us that our bodies are an anathema to the divine
And that marriage is the only way to resolve this "war" enmity between my body and my..."spirit"
As if we are a hypostatic entity having two divergent experiences
You are not at war with your bodies
But more importantly the divine is not at war with your body, your pleasure, or your desire
But instead of teaching people to love themselves fully and care for themselves fully... We teach (because education is what we say and what we don't say) people to look for weird work arounds
Instead of helping young folks come to an understanding on their needs faith communities propagate shame and call it holiness
Please understand... You can't care for something well that you've been taught to hate
Anxieties created in adolescence don't disappear in adulthood
Discomfort ignorance and trepidations that we should naturally mature out of and cycle out of as we grow older... We carry with us
It becomes our baggage
So now you fifty and you have all these feelings and the only way you cope with your shame is harassing Lil Nas X on the internet. Cause he's comfortable in who he is.... But you not comfortable in who you are
And nobody goes back and gives redress to faulty conceptions of sex and sexuality... Cause you tried to pray it away.
You thought you needed to be delivered but you really needed to be loved.
And you needed care... And sometimes that care is physical intimacy
So emerging from these difficult conversations that we never give redress to is the possibility that caring for yourself well includes your sensual self.
That a Divine God is not looking for you to neglect yourself in order to love God well
That your soul is not in competition with your sensuality
That God is not intimated by your orgasm or your consensual sexual decisions
And that you prosper as your whole self prospers... Because a benevolent God leaves nothing behind
The divine leaves nothing behind. Be well. 🤌🏿
