10 marketing psychology tips that will increase conversions on your website, emails, ads, and more:
1. Instant Gratification

We're hardwired to want more, faster.

It's so powerful that Amazon began offering 2-hour delivery because two days wasn't fast enough.

Apply it: use it in your startup's onboarding flow. Give users extra trial days with each step.
2. Curiosity Gap

The discrepancy between what we know and what we would like to know.

The gap in the reader's existing knowledge on a subject compels them to click, learn, and fill that gap.

Apply it: email subjects, article headlines, podcast topics.
3. Loss Aversion

We perceive losses more intensely than equivalent gains.

The fear of losing $20 is stronger than the joy of gaining $20.

Apply it: give a full-access trial. Losing amazing features at the end will be more painful than the joy of gaining them by upgrading.
4. Nostalgia Psychology

Nostalgia is a positive emotion based on affection for the past.

Nostalgia can fuel effective ad campaigns by eliciting happy memories and building product / brand association with those feelings.
5. Path of Least Resistance

Also known as the law of least effort – people want to get things quickly and easily, without much effort or trouble.

Apply it: only use one call to action on your website. Make the next step clear and risk-free.
6. Color Psychology

Colors have meaning and impact brand perceptions and buying decisions.

🔴 = excitement, bold
🔵 = trust, durable
🟡 = optimism, approachable
🟠 = friendly, confident
🟣 = creativity
🟢 = peaceful, health, growth
⚪ = balance, calm

Apply it: branding.
7. Reciprocity

We naturally want to "return the favor."

Leverage this with your marketing efforts. Give away free courses, guides, and ebooks.

People will reciprocate with their attention and email if your content is valuable.
8. Diderot Effect

When you buy something new you often buy related items to match style, use, etc.

Example: you buy new pants, but now want new shoes, shirts, and a belt.

Apply it: retargeting ads + email marketing to existing customers.

9. Identity

What we buy is driven largely by the principle of identity.

It's why we put stickers on our laptops. It's why we proudly share our marketing tech stacks.

Apply it: tell stories that fuel identity and connection to your brand:
10. Social Proof

79% of consumers trust reviews as much as personal recommendations from friends or family - @brightlocal

Maximize social proof by using it at key decision stages, like pricing pages:

My team increased monday.com’s traffic by 1,570% with SEO.

Here’s the strategy you can use to 10x your startup’s SEO traffic (and revenue):
For your startup’s SEO strategy, you’ve got 2 goals:

1. Drive relevant traffic
2. Drive sales / leads / demos / signups

These can be very different user experiences.

& they break down into 4 user journey indicators…
We use 3 indicators for user intent.

And create content around all of them.

1. Awareness
2. Consideration
3. Decision

Target each one specifically to drive traffic to relevant and meaningful content.

Let’s dive into optimizing keywords for each:

Break these 7 copywriting rules and you’re guaranteed to LOSE your user (and the sale):
1/ Sounding smart

Lose the technical jargon in your headlines.

Communicate in simple terms.

Your goal is to catch attention, not sound smart.
2/ Friction words

For your CTA’s:

Scrap words that increase perceived effort such as:

• book a call
• create account

Tell them what they’ll get instead.

The highest SEO impact content is often not keyword-driven.

How I earned 1,400+ backlinks from 374 high DR sites with a single piece of content:
The biggest SEO mistake I see is creating only keyword-driven content.

Sounds counterintuitive for SEO, right? Let me explain:
Google cares about your brand. About trust and authority. They care about reputation and consensus from other big websites saying you're legit, too.

And keyword-driven content isn't always enough to fuel it...

Backstory:

monday had good existing content that existing users liked.

BUT they weren't optimized for search intent and NEW visitors.

Which means there was a constant mismatch between the stuff they were publishing and the stuff that was actually performing well in Google.
They also lacked content geared towards their various customer profiles:

Marketing, sales, ops, IT, HR. Construction, education, nonprofits, and more.

They operated in dozens of spaces but lacked niche-relevant, tailor-made content.
