I love his tie!
Oscar Pettiford Orchestra – In Hi-Fi, Volume 2, from 1958. I love the way Pettiford holds his cigarette in the Myron Miller photo. However, check out the feet of "O.P.'s Jazz Men". The head of harpist Betty Glamann, featured in Laura, didn't make the cut.
Is bassist Oscar Pettiford the coolest jazz musician of all time? Here he is, with Coleman Hawkins & Howard McGhee, in a scene from The Crimson Canary, 1945. Wish this were a better quality video.

There were two uncredited still photographers on the set: Bill Craemer & William Read Woodfield, neither of whom I know. But this is a great shot!

"The music is behind those dots. You search for it, and that is what I mean by the grand manner. I play, so to speak, from the other side of the score, looking back."
Vladimir Horowitz by Jack Mitchell, 1988
"He hated to record in short sections & would do so only under duress. His artistry was worked out in the larger details. The smaller details came on the spur of the moment."
- his producer, Thomas Frost
Vladimir Horowitz by Ian Berry, 1982
"His Chopin is like a fire-ball exploding."
