Today we are hosting the National ODNs conference….
Representatives from all the ODNs across the Country..
And of course biscuits
We’ll be micro-tweeting snippets on this thread..

A lovely welcome from network Director Helen Brown

We didn’t have a meeting in 2020 and Helen took a moment to acknowledge changes with GIRFT & NNCCR (National Neonatal Critical Care Review) & .. loss of colleagues due to Covid
Dr Eleri Adams presenting a National data picture on @NHSGIRFT Neonates..

Final report ?Mar 22

Key facts: birth numbers, network relationships, Transport capacity, changes wrt NHS Long Term Plan and parent involvement

This is good as it links with the rest of today’s agenda!
Top teams chat engagement from @NorNetUK Martyn Boyd
Don’t worry @LdnNeonatal & @EMNODN hot on his trail
2nd session on NNCCR
With chair @ngozi_ediosagie

The aim of the review is to decrease nationwide variation in outcomes

Review looked at neonatal capacity, transport systems, workforce & pricing

……
Recommendations Dec ‘19
For regional commissioning teams, ODNs & LMSs to implement
1.Align capacity
2.Transport to support capacity
3.WORKFORCE (cue Lead nurses!!) both nursing & medical
4.Expert neonatal workforce- AHPs and psychology provision
5. FAMILIES
Each ODN to develop their plans and governance structure to make sure it happens..

The NNCCR will have a role in national data collect and reporting at a regional level

And then hopefully we can implement the recommendations of ALL these reports 👇
2nd morning session
@EMNODN being open about the challenges of implementing increased network capacity

Followed baby from booking…

Problem not solved but plans started:-
Building
Capital funding
Business plans
Strategy group oversight

These will take time ⏳🕰⏱
Care co-ordinaries from @NorNetUK sharing their aims and work

“Families need their babies and babies need their families…”
Teams chat shows the power of meetings like this for networking & #collaboration
@TVWNeonatal & @YHneonet sharing job descriptions & experience
(More later from our Parent & Families engagement Lead)
This talk really enlivens the Teams chat!!!
@SarahFullwood1 from @NWNeonatalODN sharing ideas for engagement of families from all genders, background, ethnicity, ages

They are linking with #BMMHW21
Ref: @MMHAlliance
@TVWNeonatal explaining their approach to psychological support

It took time to set up and fund… they started a “while” ago!
4 stepped approach after recognising what happens on the ground

….
1 universal - training and supporting cot-side nurses to support families
2 distress - training up mental health champions on the unit to recognise stress and signs
3 need for psychology support
4 need for psychology support with multi-agency support
Thank you @MotherhoodGroup for your re-tweet and raising your profile to us…
Stunning piece of work by @NWNeonatalODN on family support
Asked @SpoonsCharity to assess

Welcome to the afternoon
Starting with Michael Wilson from @NHSEngland specialised commission- looking into the future of ICSs & networks…
How are we going to work together symbiotically to deliver:
Better health
Reduce inequalities
Sustainable NHS services

#HolyGrail
Thank you Roelle from @NCOTBSolLMS neonatal outreach

They have an extensive criteria for outreach
Which is being supported by @WMNODN to aid equality of access on LMS & ODN 👣 footprint
Challenges since inception
Covid-19!
Initial staff resistance
Education about the work
Initially working hours not meeting demand
Lack of equipment*
Staffing
Office space
Large geographic area

*a bit sad 😔 that some of this was met by charity
Karen Williams from @YHneonet talked about her 7/52 in her rôle as Parent & Family Engagement Lead

It’s about getting the family voice truly heard

And reaching out to Seldom heard groups

And getting this embedded in neonatal service and transformation

💜
Katie from @EoENeonatalODN sharing the development of their Transitional care training programme
Benefits - so many
Mum & Baby together
Correct environment
Flow out of neonatal unit
Collaborative working
Hers the @BAPM_Official framework for reference

bapm.org/resources/24-n…
@KatielouiseHa14 has plans to accredited with @NNAUK1
& 🤞@NHS_HealthEdEng

Hint hint @NHS_HealthEdEng ALL THE NETWORKS LOVED THIS…❤️💙💗
@DYissau from @LdnNeonatal sharing her experience of setting up the Foundation programme in London….
And then switching to deliver online…
Since 2015 they have had a Bnd 5 competency booklet which helped to build the course
And another shout out for #collaboration
HT to @NWNeonatalODN & @TVWNeonatal

Challenges going online
We’ve all learnt we need presenter & moderator
too many topics can feel rushed

And let’s not forget those “home” distractions - how do you learn with your children?
They would like more resuscitation training face to face

Constant learning cycle

Range of disciplines accessed the course including #physicianassociate

News from @WMNODN - they will open theirs out to #AHP 👏 🙌
Tough topic next Jo Cookson (& @shenvi_asha ) from @WMNODN talking about perinatal post-mortem consent training

Very thoughtful approach
Lots of pre-work spanning from 2018

@SandsUK
Blown away be this project and by how sensitively of the @SandsUK website
Please have a look 👀

Professional e-learning @ e-lfh.org.uk
