'She wasn't the best-selling issue': Alexandra Shulman reveals that Kate's Vogue cover was beaten by the September issue featuring Cara Delevingne archive.is/giuAI
It took months of planning and intense secrecy and was heralded as a career high for UK Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman.
But it turns out that the magazine's much-heralded centenary issue, featuring the Duchess of Cambridge on the cover, was not the top seller of the year.
September is the month when people start shopping for their Autumn/Winter wardrobes & its seen as peak season for fashion editors. It's surprising that Kate's cover did not outdo September sales considering it was the magazine's centenary issue and therefore a collectible item.
As soon as the photo shoot with Kate was revealed, brand experts predicted a huge sales boom for the Vogue.
PR expert Mark Borkowski said: 'Money can't buy that sort of publicity. It's beyond monetary value, because she's a celebrity in the US & a global icon.' (I guess not 😁)
Jack Izzard, director of the PR consultancy Rhizome Media, added: 'For Vogue to put Kate on its cover is a testament to her fashion clout – but also a shrewd tactical move. (I guess not 😁)
'Kate is at the height of her powers as a global fashion icon, so the PR value to Vogue of having her as a cover star is astronomical. (I guess not 😁)
Why wasn't her issue a bestseller? Perhaps the pr experts were wrong. Perhaps she is not popular or a global icon.
